- 1. Techniques for Learning Students’ Names Here are a number of techniques frequently used by educators to learn their students’ names. Please put a check by the THREE techniques that you would find most useful to you when learning your students’ names each semester. 1. _______ I have my students write their names on a name tent, name badge, name place card that is placed on the front of their desks. 2. _______I have my students tell me their names and then repeat it back to them. 3. _______I create a seating chart for my students and have them adhere to it until I learned their names. 4. _______I type my students’ names over and over until I remembered them. 5. _______I have students introduce one another to the whole class. 6. _______I have them complete index cards with personal information on the card. 7. _______I look at their photos on ELC, Blackboard or some other photo displaying technology. 8. _______I say their names each time I call on them. 9. _______I create a class slide show of their photos and their names through PowerPoint. If at least two of your responses were numbers: 3, 4 and 6, you personally tend to use tactile techniques to assist you in learning your students’ names.
