Through Constant Change
WAYS TO DISRUPT THE TRADITIONAL LEARNING
ENVIRONMENT WITH TECHNOLOGY.
Introducing
The days of traditional
classroom settings have
ended. In order to excite
our children, we must begin
with obvious visual and
technological changes.
Before… (Boring) After….Excitement!!
The way to implement an innovation so that it will transform
an organization is to implement it disruptively—not by using it
to compete against the existing paradigm and serve existing
customers, but to let it compete against “non-consumption,”
where the alternative is nothing at all. (Christensen & Horn
2008)

“Raise the bar and they will meet it every time”
-Stephen Webb, M.Div-
According to Kim Haynes of www.teachhub.com, there are 12 ways
to use technology in the classroom. Here are few examples
• Do a Powerpoint gameshow review
• Have students complete classroom activity as if it were online
• Try a Webquest
• Use technology as a topic for writing
• Create a class webpage
• Do an email exchange
• Create a class blog
• Listen to – or create – a podcast
• Publish your students work
Electing to have students interact in the learning process gives
students ownership, thereby reinforcing the lessons learned.
Jayne Clare of http://www.teacherswithapps.com/17-
pros-and-cons-of-using-ipads-in-the-classroom/ addresses
the creative Pros and Cons of utilizing personal devices in
the classroom, namely Apple Ipads.
The use of Ipads/Personal Devices creates an
environment of creativity that will help to stimulate and
engage students.
Currently Underutilized Tech
Computers do not deliver instruction. The teacher is still
at the center of the classroom (Christensen & Horn

Our students must be
globally conscious AND
competitive!
Computers offer a way to
customize instruction and allow
students to learn in the way they
are best wired to process
information, in the style that
conforms to them, and at a pace
that matches their own.
(Christensen & Horn 2008)
Computer-based
learning on a
large scale is also
less expensive
than the current
labor intensive
system and could
solve the financial
dilemmas facing
public schools.
(Christensen &
Horn 2008)
Create opportunities for your students to shine!
Student Webpages give them a innovative edge
on the World Wide Web.
According to Michael Sunnarborg of
http://www.learningsolutionsmag.com/, facilitation makes learners
responsible for their own learning.
Effective integration of technology is achieved when
students are able to select technology tools to help
them obtain information in a timely manner, analyze
and synthesize the information, and present it
professionally. The technology should become an
integral part of how the classroom functions -- as
accessible as all other classroom tools.”
-NATIONAL EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY
STANDARDS FOR STUDENTS, INTERNATIONAL
SOCIETY FOR TECHNOLOGY IN EDUCATION-
According to Brian Gatens of http://education.cu-
portland.edu/, there are 5 ways to transition to a much more
technologically based classroom.
• Reimagine everything
• Process out loud (Speak to all parties regarding transition)
• Do your research
• Burn your camps (Abandon your old way of instruction)
• Get with people
Everyone needs a guide. Utilize your social skills and build
networks that can assist in the creation of a new classroom.
