God created the heavens and the earth over the course of six days. Each day God created something new: on the first day he created light and separated it from darkness; on the second day he created the sky to separate the waters; on the third day he created dry land and plants; on the fourth day he created the sun, moon, and stars; on the fifth day he created sea creatures and birds; and on the sixth day he created land animals and humans, making them in his own image. After completing his work of creation, on the seventh day God rested.
