This Chinese folktale is about an old priest who helps a poor country man by using magic to make pears grow on his pear tree. The country man's pear tree was not bearing fruit so he was struggling financially. The priest visits and secretly uses magic words to make the tree produce an abundant harvest of pears. When the country man discovers this and tries to thank the priest, he has already left. The story highlights the importance of helping others in need through acts of kindness.
