  • #17: In any learning environment, content is king. You can have the perfect LMS, but without engaging course content or instructional design this means nothing. We find that many of our clients do not realistically calculate the actual time it takes to create content that drives results. Unless you are hiring a professional instructional designer (who will be able to give you realistic deadlines) – a rule of thumb is to multiply the time you think it will take by three. One tip is to find a vendor that either develops their own engaging content, or who has leveraged a third party content marketplace.   • #18: You need buy-in for the leaders of the groups you will be providing training for. Ensure that the outcomes of the training or learning provided is attached to their KPI’s and clearly communicate the tangible benefits for their team. Empower the learners! Start small and ensure incentives are aligned for them. What do they have to gain from the training or learning experience you are providing? If it is required that this learning takes place on their own time, make it worth their time! This is key to learning. It has to fun, engaging and interactive. Part of this is finding an LMS that is rich with features so you can craft the learning experience you want. Gamification is a hot button trend right now – I will include a past webinar we have that discusses the pedagogy behind gamification.

Where do you see the LMS fitting in with the business? What is the purpose for deploying this technology? Do you have your own content? What format is it in? Did you need to purchase content? Would integration with a content provider be useful? Does the LMS need to be tied to other systems for authentication, enrolment, data collection or other purposes?\ Pretty self explanatory What do you need to be fully comfortable with the system.
