ipconfig
Displays and configures the IP address and other network details
Common Usage:
ipconfig: Shows IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway
ipconfig /all: Displays detailed network configuration (including
MAC address and DNS servers)
ipconfig /release: Releases the current IP address
ipconfig /renew: Renews the IP address from the DHCP server
ipconfig /flushdns: Clears the DNS resolver cache
ping
Checks connectivity with another device or server.
Common Usage:
ping [hostname or IP]: Sends ICMP Echo requests to a host to verify
connectivity
ping -t [IP]: Continuously pings until stopped (use Ctrl + C to stop)
ping -l [size] [IP]: Sends packets of specific size for testing
tracert
Traces the path that packets follow to reach a destination host.
Common Usage:
tracert [hostname or IP]: Displays each hop (router) along the route to
the destination
netstat
Displays network connections, routing tables, and statistics.
Common Usage:
netstat: Shows active connections
netstat -a: Displays all active and listening ports
netstat -n: Shows active connections numerically (IP and
port numbers)
netstat -o: Displays each connection's PID (Process ID)
nslookup
Queries DNS servers to resolve domain names to IP addresses.
Common Usage:
nslookup [hostname]: Retrieves the IP address for the hostname
nslookup: Enter interactive mode to query DNS records manually
arp
Displays and manages the ARP (Address Resolution
Protocol) cache.
Common Usage:
arp -a: Shows the current ARP table
arp -d [IP]: Deletes an ARP entry
arp -s [IP] [MAC address]: Adds a static ARP entry
route
Displays and modifies the local IP routing table.
Common Usage:
route print: Displays the current routing table
route add [destination] mask [subnet mask] [gateway]: Adds a new
route
route delete [destination]: Deletes a route
netsh
Configures and displays network settings.
Common Usage:
netsh interface ip show config: Displays IP configuration for
all network adapters
netsh wlan show profiles: Lists all Wi-Fi profiles saved on
the computer
netsh int ip reset: Resets TCP/IP stack settings to default
telnet
Tests connectivity to a specific port on a remote host.
Common Usage:
telnet [hostname or IP] [port]: Checks if a specific port is open
Get-NetIPAddress
(PowerShell)
Retrieves the IP address configuration using PowerShell.
Common Usage:
Get-NetIPAddress: Displays all IP addresses configured
on the system
whoami
Displays the currently logged-in user and computer details.
Common Usage:
whoami: Shows the username
whoami /fqdn: Shows the fully qualified domain name
net use
Manages shared resources on the network.
Common Usage:
net use: Lists all connected shared resources
net use [drive]: [server][share]: Maps a network drive
