Towards a Web Search Service for Minority Language Communities

This document summarizes Baden Hughes' presentation on developing a web search service to improve search for minority languages. It discusses the linguistic diversity in Australia, current challenges of web search precision, and the LangGator service architecture being developed to provide language-centric web resource identification, description, and discovery to enable more precise searching for resources in lesser-used languages. The service crawls the web for resources in over 3,000 languages and describes around 40% of the resources found using machine learning for language identification.
