Our aims for this trial Distance learning web conference are: Provide you with experience  in participating in distance learning web conferencing session Describe why we need to reinvigorate Distance learning  for TQR success – TQR Strategic plan Share experiences and ideas on current distance learning practice  between participants – web conference attendees. Identify 3- 5 key issues to develop and thereby enhance distance learning  practice across TQR Institutes Evaluate this distance learning web conference  as a viable Professional Development option for TQR staff.
 
TQR strategic plan 2010-2013: Where we are going? “  .. With 46 campuses and  recognised expertise in distance  , on-line and blended delivery models…” Create new flexible learning options and arrangements Develop a rich teaching and learning culture that extends our expertise in blended learning Current TAFE Qld Regional  2008-2009 distance learning statistics  ?! Current ISAS figures only code face to face traditional delivery and online learning delivery?

What is  distance learning ? Learning that occurs when a teacher and learner(s) are  separated:   by physical distance  Technology (i.e., voice, video, data, and print), is often combined with face-to-face communication, to bridge the instructional gap.  These types of programs can provide adults with a chance to undertake vocational education and training and reach those disadvantaged by limited time, distance or physical disability, and enhance the competence of workers at their places of employment.

Research comparing distance education to traditional face-to-face instruction  indicates that teaching and studying at a distance can be as effective as traditional instruction, when… The method and technologies used are appropriate to the instructional tasks There is student-to-student interaction There is timely teacher-to- student feedback (see Moore & Thompson, 1990; Verduin & Clark, 1991).
