- 2. T Bill Gates: Our high schools are obsolete. Our high schools were designed 50 years ago to meet the needs of another age. Until we design them to meet the needs of the 21st century, we will keep limiting--even ruining--the lives of millions of Americans every year.

- 4. T DID YOU KNOW? • For every 50 Alaska 9th graders... • 19 fail to graduate from high school • 17 finish high school, but don’t go on to college • 5 go on to college, but do not complete a degree after six years • 6 remain in college, but do not complete a degree after 6 years
- 5. T RESULTS • At 17.3% Alaska has the 2nd highest unemployment rate in the nation for those without high school diplomas. • An Alaskan with only a high school diploma is four times more likely to be incarcerated as one with at least some college.

- 7. T GRADES 7-8 and this is our answer.... INTRODUCE SUCCESS HIGHWAYS---the trail to a better future for middle/junior high students. A research based program that builds trusting relationships between the educators and his/her students based on their mutual goal of success. The student becomes vested in the process of education and is able to tackle a rigorous curriculum leading to increased graduation rates, higher grades, and better test scores. Most important, students will gain a better understanding of what they want to be when they grow up and be able to positively contribute to their community.
