1)Many garments in style today combine cloth fabrics with suede or leather trims. These high-fashion items can
create problems for drycleaners who accept them for cleaning in any process--drycleaning, wetcleaning or
leather cleaning.

If the trim colors are light, natural or pale pastel shades, and the garment is processed using a proven method
that's compatible with cloth and leather constructions, there is usually no serious problem. But if the leather-
cleaning process uses a fat liquor--animal or vegetable fat extracts--as a solvent additive, there will likely be
undesirable effects on the cloth areas of such a combination garment.

Fat liquors are 100% fatty acids, so the usual problems associated with fatty acids will be seen on the cloth
portions of a trimmed garment. These problems include streaks and swales on silks and sheer polyesters, as
well as oily residues, color losses and bleeds.

Battenberg lace is of heavy tape formed into a pattern and filled in with lace stitches. Carrickmacross is cutwork
lace. So-called English point or point d'Angleterre is Flemish point, at one time smuggled into England and
renamed.

Filet is a combination of knotting and darning, reminiscent of the earliest lace forms attempted. Cutwork, or
various combinations of early lace forms with embroidery , also formed an important step in lace making. The
better-known knotted laces are tatting and macramé ; macramé evolved from the early Italian punto a groppo.
Crocheted lace reached its finest development in Ireland. Knitted laces, for which many intricate patterns
survive, have been mainly of peasant use.

Evolution of Lace Making

Lace was developed prior to the 16th cent. from the drawn work, cutwork, and lacis (darning on squares of net)
of the embroiderers' craft. With drawn work, more and more threads were removed until the ground vanished
altogether. A design was executed and its principal line supported the complete pattern. The first of such laces,
reticella, originated in Venice and was based on geometric forms. Later, as laceworkers sought relief from the
restrictions of symmetrical design, the illogical but beautiful designs of punto in aria (literally, a stitch in the air)
were first created. The richest, most sumptuous of these needlepoint laces was the Venetian raised point of the
17th cent.

The vogue for lace began c.1540, and pattern books began to appear. Early reticella designs usually included
pointed or scalloped edges. By the time of Charles I lace was used extravagantly for both costume and interior
decorating; by 1643 lace making had become an established industry. In France patterns became increasingly
more detailed and delicate; the light, flowery point de France was used for every conceivable decorative
purpose. Later the laces of Alençon, Argentan, and Valencienne exemplified French style and design. The
making of bobbin, pillow, or bone lace, which is mentioned as early as 1495, passed from Italy to Flanders,
reaching its height of production there in the 18th cent.

Machine-made lace first appeared c.1760, and by 1813 a bobbinet machine was perfected. After 1832 cotton
thread somewhat replaced linen. In the 20th cent. many lace patterns have been revived and modified, and
called Cluny lace. The chief modern centers of lace making are France, Belgium, England, Ireland, and Italy

'Material Girl' to bring new dimension to Macy's juniors

MG ICON, the newly formed joint venture between Madonna and Iconix Brand Group,
Inc announced its first direct-to-retail license agreement with Macy's, Inc. for the
"Material Girl" collection. "Material Girl" is a newly created, fast-fashion junior
collection that will launch exclusively in approximately 200 Macy's stores and online in
August 2010 for the back-to-school season.

As part of the direct-to-retail agreement, Macy's will have the opportunity to launch
additional brands with MG Icon in the future.

The "Material Girl" collection was inspired and designed in collaboration with Madonna
and her daughter Lourdes, along with Iconix Brand Group's in-house fashion department.
In addition to the back-to-school apparel collection, "Material Girl" will also launch in

multiple categories including footwear, handbags and jewelry. The strategy for growth
will include additional categories in the lifestyle and beauty sectors, including fragrance,
beginning 2011 as well as a rollout into additional Macy's stores.

Neil Cole, CEO and Chairman, Iconix, stated, "We are excited to announce the first in a
series of new brands that will be developed under our partnership with Madonna.

India : India’s largest display of accessories at KnitShow 2006

The highlight at Knit Show 2006 was the options and variety. In the well known product line there was host
of options with participants from across the globe.

There were several participants who were participating for the first time who were benefited by being at the
show and not to miss out the benefit to the visitors who were able to meet them and understand the
products offered by them.

Knit Show in short brought out the importance and vibrancy of the accessories segment through its sheer
size and variety.

The promoters of Knit Show informed that the visitor flow was better than last year and the participation has
steadily increased over the years and they have been able to offer facilities to the participants well in time
and hoped that the experience of the visitors was also pleasant.

In all they felt that it has achieved the objective of presenting large number of accessories players to the
industry in Tirupur and its hinterland.

Encouraged by the success of this edition they have already announced their 2nd edition of accessories,
machinery and allied products show at Karur for the home textiles, commercially used textiles and made –
ups.

They also have plans of doing a show in Salem in the coming year. Next year the Knit show is scheduled to
be held in the month of August in the same premises.

6th edition of the annual accessories event KnitShow 2006 which concluded at Tirupur recently established
its place as the premier event for the garment accessories and allied products and machineries.

The show was inaugurated by A. Sakthivel, President of Tirupur Exporters Association in the presence of
captains of the industry. The four day event was held in the air-conditioned comforts spread over 6 halls with
nearly 700 booths with over 370 companies participating from all parts of the global presenting a wide range
of products and services.

Accessories have a crucial role in enhancing the value of knit/ woven garments and other home textiles.
They are the bits and pieces that are essential to make an article of clothing’s complete.

They are also the high value components that embellish the garment adding value and giving it an edge in
the competitive market of today. The highlight of the show was the record number of accessories
manufacturers who were displaying their products from New Delhi, Mumbai, Andhra Pradesh and other
parts of the country.

For the visitors it was options galore and bargain spree was seen with many customers comparing prices
and delivery time of each supplier and all the accessories suppliers were kept on their tenterhooks to attract
the attention and retain customers.

In this backdrop an exclusive accessories tradeshow is a not-to-be-missed event for any garment
manufacturer at least to know first hand latest collections offered by each trimming and embellishment
manufacturer.

Button Masala’ & ‘The Melting Architecture’ delight LFW audience

Anuj Sharma and Arjun Saluja gave trendy directions for Spring/Summer 2010 at Lakme Fashion Week.

With buttons and button holes as a theme can a collection be created? Well, when the designer is Anuj
Sharma anything is possible! His “Button Masala” collection gave the audience a lot to think above the next
time they fasten their garments in the traditional manner. Allowing the wearer to join in with his creative
talents, Anuj felt that the humble button and its opening should be given importance on the ramp; so
garments had multiple possibilities as the wearer can change the silhouettes according her whims and
fancies.

Working around three colours – red, black and off-white with a touch of nude thrown, in Anuj sprinkled them
with multi-coloured buttons in grid pattern keeping the silhouette either tubular, toga like, asymmetric or
slightly fluid. Balanced on multiple straps that were buttoned to the body of the garment, the collection was
ideal for summer. Allowing the fabric to fall in its natural form over the body and then buttoning the garment
at various strategic points Anuj showed a simple but very effective line.

His advice to budding designers is, to take a rectangular fabric, add a square grid of 1-2 inches and attach
buttons on intersecting points of the grid, and then fix straps, add button holes and then let your imagination
run wild. But can everyone be as imaginative as Anuj Sharma is the question? Once more Anuj Sharma
delighted the wearer and the viewer with his strong creative directions.

It was a structured collection that followed its title “The Melting Architecture” for women’s and men’s wear
worked around solids and geometric, smudgy and micro check prints in black, brown, grey and white for
crepe, net, georgette and satin. Arjun Saluja for his label Rishta, proved once again that his offering for each
season is something quite spectacular and unconventional.The silhouettes moved into a complex scheme
as ruffled, tiered, geometric butterfly blouses or long tubes with front ruffles were balanced by men’s abstract
print dhoti and space age shirts or lungis which were the offering for the season.

A black layered cape cover, a large all-in-one hooded checked grey silk dress, full salwars with black shirt or
draped capris for men were silhouettes that were purely part of a very unconventional line of garments.
While the theme was very structured, the end result was a very flowing yet complex line for both men’s and
women’s wear which will be a style statement from Arjun Saluja to watch out for during the coming season.

Court approves merger of Bombay Rayon & Leela Scottish Lace

approved the Scheme of amalgamation of Leela Scottish Lace Pvt. Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary with the

India : Delegation to Russia, Japan to increase textiles sector trade
March 22, 2007

COIMBATORE:

An Indian delegation will be on a week's visit to Russia and Japan from April one to explore avenues to
increase trade in textiles sector.

The delegation will be led by Union Textile Minister Shankarsinh Vaghela and would discuss various policy
initiatives taken by Government of Russia and seek possibilities for Joint Venture to invest on mutual benefit
basis, said M S Mathivanan, Chairman Powerloom Development and Export Promotion Council.

The delegation would comprise members from PDEXCIL, Apparel Export Promotion Council, Cotton Textiles
Export Promotion Council, Synthetic and Rayon Textile Export Promotion Council.

Discussions will be held to develop skill development strategy and innovation and capitalisation of design in
order to increase competitiveness, by the delegation, Mathivanan said.

It would visit the 9th International Trade Exhibition for Decorative Textiles and Window 'DECOTEX' on April
4 at Russia.

The team will also visit major retail shops and malls to understand apparel trends.

The delegation is scheduled to meet officials of Japan External Trade Organisation and Chief Officials of
YKK, leading zipper manufacturers.

They would be visiting buyers and buyer associations in fields of textiles and visiting R and D centres in
Tokyo.

The visit would help create more opportunities for powerloom sector and improve exports to these countries.

Arvind unveils 'ready-to-stitch' denims

Arvind Ltd, the Rs 25 billion turnover integrated textile manufacturer and apparel retailer has unveiled its
latest range of pretreated 'ready-to-stitch' (RTS) denims under the brand name of 'Arvind Intellifabrix' in
Ahmedabad.

The new product has been developed through a research and development initiative of the denim division
team and will be available in two different lines; denim chinos and denim jeans. The price points have been
fixed between Rs 299 and Rs 450 per pack to be available in lengths of 1.3 meters.

A special treatment and finish has been accorded to the RTS denims. The pack will also carry accessories
like branded buttons, zipper, labels, rivets and even pocketing fabric and can be stitched at any regular
tailoring shop.

Mr Subir Mukherjee, Head, Sales and Marketing, Denim Fabrics told Fibre2fashion, “We are targeting the
Indian workwear segment. People who don't find their perfect fit in the ready made segment can now wear a
pair of jeans/ chinos stitched to their measure.

“Normally denim jeans are washed in an industrial laundry to take care of the superficial indigo colour and
enhance touch and fill and since we have introduced some innovative finishes in the fabric itself so that after
stitching, a consumer can start wearing jeans or Chino trousers without any industrial wash.

“Our range is in the right weight range for Indian weather and we are sure, the segment of consumers who
find a pair of ready made jeans either too flashy or too expensive will now have the option of wearing a pair
of jeans of the highest quality and yet affordable.”

Elaborating on the range he said, “This range includes single and two ply chinos and conventional denim
fabrics and all fabrics are specially treated to enhance hand-fill and improve crocking values, along with
which there are a wide range of designs and colours.”

Lattice motifs add to beauty of ensembles from Deepika

For easy resort wear, the cruise collection by Deepika Gehani for Spring/Summer 2009 at Lakme Fashion
Week will be a great addition in every woman's wardrobe during the coming season.

She called it A "Patch of Paradise" and that is exactly what the collection was. Flowing chic dresses and
tunics in a mélange of prints and luxurious silhouettes had a look that was a little reminiscent of the 70s as
palazzo pants, floor length gowns and kaftans floated down the ramp.

The tiered layered skirts with asymmetric hemlines and the interesting lattice work motifs added to the
beauty of the ensembles. When on a cruise or a holiday.

Minis were tiered and fringed with lace and tassels, harem pants were worn with pin tuck jackets, draped
halter gowns, tiered and rouched long maxis, lame kurtas with wide pants, printed dogri pants with kurtas
were all long and fluid.

An eye catcher was a shaded yellow figure hugging mini and a pair of gold shorts with a sexy top. The one

shoulder was a favoured style for most of the dresses to give the garments that ultra glam holiday feel.

Deepika ended the show with Bollywood starlet Masumeh in a regal pale green lehenga choli and dupatta
shimmered down the ramp to wild applause.

There was a pleasant mix of the western and ethnic chic in Deepika Gehani's "Patch of Paradise" offering
for the coming season; which will create a glam look for the wearer, as she moves from dawn to dusk in
