DSS v6 software

The Open-E Data Storage Software V6 (DSS V6) is a unified file and block storage
management operating system (OS) that provides Network Attached Storage (NAS),
iSCSI, InfiniBand and Fibre Channel Storage Area Network (SAN) functionality.

This product contains a one year free of charge Standard Support.

Open-E DSS V6 provides superior performance, security, and scalability at a fraction
of the cost of alternative storage offerings. Advanced features of Open-E DSS V6
include Data and Volume Replication, Volume Snapshot, Automatic Failover for iSCSI
Volumes, WORM and NDMP.

Additionally, Open-E DSS V6 supports a wide variety of hardware RAID platforms
from the industry’s leading names. The versatility of the Open-E DSS V6 also allows
users to combine NAS systems with iSCSI SAN systems, and provides built-in virus
protection, while enabling the connection of multiple Network Interface Controllers,
including Gigabit Ethernet, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, Fibre Channel and InfiniBand.

                                                                                       9
Business Continuity Boot from LUN
Booting from highly available
iSCSI LUN with Open-E DSS V6 via
Storage Area Network (SAN)

A dynamic increase of data
volumes leads to greater the
hardware requirements and
greater power consumption -
forces us to search for new
solutions that can reduce the
costs associated with this.

So, every new chance to
significantly reduce costs because
of hardware power usage and
cooling requirements or caused
by the time spent on IT
administration is more than
welcome in most organizations.
                                     10
Business Continuity iSCSI failover
Failover is an excellent way to implement High Availability. It is a work mode using two
Open-E Data Storage Software V6 servers (primary and secondary). In the event the primary
server fails, the secondary server which has a full up-to-date copy of the data takes over as
the file server.

Failover begins with
continuously moving the
data store on the main
server to secondary
server.

Data transfer is realized
by volume replication on
the iSCSI level.

                                                                                                11
Business Continuity NFS failover (optional)
High availability is crucial to many applications.
Despite using high-quality hardware and
superior connection, any node (network, server,
storage equipment, etc) is still a subject for
crashes due to power shortages,
communication and equipment faults, fire
incidents, maintenance problems or a human
factor, which results in loss of all active
connections and data transactions as well as in
service termination.

In case the provided services are structured so
that they aren’t dependent on the availability of
a single node, a redundant node (or nodes)
should be present.

When aware of the original node failure, these
redundant nodes could continue serving clients,
effectively replacing the missing node.
                                                     12

Business Continuity Boot from LUN Booting from highly available iSCSI LUN with Open-E DSS V6 via Storage Area Network (SAN) A dynamic increase of data volumes leads to greater the hardware requirements and greater power consumption - forces us to search for new solutions that can reduce the costs associated with this. So, every new chance to significantly reduce costs because of hardware power usage and cooling requirements or caused by the time spent on IT administration is more than welcome in most organizations. 10
  • 11. Business Continuity iSCSI failover Failover is an excellent way to implement High Availability. It is a work mode using two Open-E Data Storage Software V6 servers (primary and secondary). In the event the primary server fails, the secondary server which has a full up-to-date copy of the data takes over as the file server. Failover begins with continuously moving the data store on the main server to secondary server. Data transfer is realized by volume replication on the iSCSI level. 11
  • 12. Business Continuity NFS failover (optional) High availability is crucial to many applications. Despite using high-quality hardware and superior connection, any node (network, server, storage equipment, etc) is still a subject for crashes due to power shortages, communication and equipment faults, fire incidents, maintenance problems or a human factor, which results in loss of all active connections and data transactions as well as in service termination. In case the provided services are structured so that they aren’t dependent on the availability of a single node, a redundant node (or nodes) should be present. When aware of the original node failure, these redundant nodes could continue serving clients, effectively replacing the missing node. 12
