ACTIVITY: Paper Tower Challenge
a. The class will be divided into five groups;
each group will received 5 papers from
the teacher.
b. Each group will think of their strategy to
build the tallest free standing paper tower.
c. The group who can survive the different
tests that the teacher will do to each
group’s output will be announced as the
winner.
d. This activity is only good for 15 minutes.
1st – 100

3 Cable Types
Commonly Used For
Ethernet Cabling
A. COAXIAL CABLING
It is generally used for cable internet
access.
This was used for computer networks, but
today are largely replaced by twisted-pair
cabling.
B. TWISTED-PAIR CABLING
It is the most popular type of cabling
nowadays.
It can be used for telephone and network
cabling.
2 VERSIONS:
1. UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair)
2. STP (Shielded Twisted Pair)
Though the two aren’t terribly different
from one another, the way unshielded
twisted pair cabling and shielded twisted
pair cabling cancel out electromagnetic
interference is.
Types of Ethernet Cable
Twisted-pair cabling comes in
two:
1. Straight-through cable – this type of
cable has identical wiring on both
ends.
2. Crossover cable – wire pairs are
swapped, which means that
different pins are connected
together.
TAKE NOTE:
Straight through cables are
primarily used for connecting
unlike devices.
TAKE NOTE:
Crossover cables are use for
connecting like devices.
Use straight through cable for the following cabling:
Switch to router
Switch to PC or server
Hub to PC or server
Use crossover cables for the following cabling:
Switch to switch
Switch to hub
Hub to hub
Router to router
Router Ethernet port to PC NIC
PC to PC
C. FIBER-OPTIC CABLING
It uses optical fibers to transmit data in the
form of light signals.
This cabling method has many advantages
over other methods but it’s drawback is that
it is the most expensive type of cabling.

Editor's Notes

  • #15: UTP, unshielded twisted pair cabling has no foil shield and relies on the way the pairs inside the cabling is twisted to cancel electromagnetic interference. They are also smaller than STP cables, easier to install and a lot more cost-effective. And, they can transmit data just as fast as shielded twisted pair cabling. STP, has a metallic foil that encases the twisted wire pairs inside a cable. This protects against electromagnetic interference and allows for a faster transmission of data.
  • #18: A straight through cable is a type of twisted pair cable that is used in local area networks to connect a computer to a network hub such as a router.
  • #19: An Ethernet crossover cable is a type of Ethernet cable used to connect computing devices together directly. It is most often used to connect two devices of the same type: e.g. two computers (via network interface controller) or two switches to each other.
