Background & Role of UIDAI The Unique Identification Authority of India is a statutory authority established under the provisions of the Aadhaar Act, 2016 on 12 July 2016 by the Government of India. Role of UIDAI 1. Developing the procedure, policy and system for issuing Aadhaar 2. Ensuring the security and confidentiality of identity & information 3. Ensuring the availability, resilience and scalability of the technology 4. Ensure compliance with Aadhaar Act by all individual and agencies 5. Making rules & regulations consistent with the Aadhaar Act

System Procedure of UIDAI Enrolment and Update: The enrollment procedure consists of registrars and enrolment agencies. 1 ) Enrolment and Update a) Registrar : Registrar is an authorized and recognized entity by UIDAI for the purpose of enrolling individuals. b) Enrolment Agencies : These agencies are responsible for collecting demographic and biometric information of individuals during the enrollment and are appointed by registrars 2) Authentication : a) Scalable procedure has been set up by UIDAI for the purpose of instant authentication of residents. b) A number of Authentication Service Agencies (ASAs) and Authentication User Agencies (AUAs) has been appointed from various Government and non- Government organizations by UIDAI
