What is DART?
• Donor and Alumni Relationship Tool

Alumni and Constituent (DAC)
Database
• Single business management
system that integrates all facets of
Development
• One-stop-shop for Development
information
Replacing the Development, Alumni and Constituent (DAC) Database
Why replace DAC?
Replacing the Development, Alumni and Constituent (DAC) Database
How did we choose the
product?
• Reviewed 3 other products
– Oracle “Contributor Relations”
– Blackbaud “Infinity”
– SunGard “Advance”
• Blackbaud is the most forward looking
product
• Technology platform fits with U-M
Replacing the Development, Alumni and Constituent (DAC) Database
Who will be impacted?
• Development/fundraising workers
– Faculty/Staff with DAC or EIS access
– Departments storing donor/alumni information
in separate or redundant systems
• How many in your department are using
Macs?
• How many of those are doing
development work?
Replacing the Development, Alumni and Constituent (DAC) Database
Will DART work for Mac users?
Not currently, but we hope that is
changingWhat we’ve been told:
•Infrastructure and tooling to support form delivery using W3C
standards compliant HTML, CSS and javascript
•Building UIs to W3C standards so they work on all modern,
A-grade browsers on all platforms, including Safari on Mac
Replacing the Development, Alumni and Constituent (DAC) Database
What we know now:
• Blackbaud’s current BBEC application uses the .NET
framework and requires Microsoft OS to run
• The application can be initiated with IE or Firefox which
is supported on PC’s with a Plugin.

Editor's Notes

  • #3: What is DART? Donor and Alumni Relationship Tool – based on Blackbaud Enterprise CRM It will replace the existing Development, Alumni, and Constituent Database with newer technology to match the size and complexity of the U-M Development Program. We are exploring a single business management system that integrates all facets of Development, including prospect management, gift administration, events planning, and enables flexible information sharing across the university – a "one-stop-shop" for Development information.
  • #4: Why replace DAC? Development program has grown and changed over the last 17 years $1.4 billion in campaign 1991-1997 to $3 billion Michigan Difference campaign 2000-2008 Around 450 development staff across the University New technologies can more effectively manage all facets of Development manage giving process from end to end improve viewing and reporting expand profiling capability to capture additional information about our donors and prospects so we can manage them more effectively track and measure communications efforts New system will enable flexible information sharing across the University by integrating data more easily (integrate with MPathways Financials). It will help us leverage our relationships by incorporating additional elements which cannot be stored on DAC
  • #5: Add comments about how other products and their compatibility with Macs.
