Task 1: Rushes Log
This task will help you decide which clips will be most suitable to meet the clients
brief. Rushes logs will show a full appreciation of the possibilities and limitations of
shots. All paperwork will be clear and organised to a near-professional
standard.
You must check each rush and offer a description of the action in each clip. In your
description you MUST use camera specific terminology to describe the shot. You
must then decide whether this clip could be used in the final construction and give a
reason as to why you have made that decision.
Evidence will be the completed table.

Unit 16: Film and Video Editing Techniques
Task 4: Clarifying the purpose of the work with a client or director
1. What is your company mission/objective?
Creating a promotional video that would represent the college to potential
students, this will include showing off the subjects that the college offers
(including clips of current students).
1. What are the specific services or products you offer?
Visual examples of a journey through the college along with voices overs that
talks the viewer thought the video while they are watching.
2. Who is your target market?
Potential students and their parents that are looking at what college they are
sending their children to.
3. Who are your competitors, and how are you unique among them?
My competitors are other filmmakers that. Stuff that makes me unique
from them it that I went and gathered more clips to add to the promo
video.
5. How long should the video be?
The video should be between two and three minutes.
6.What type of shotwould you like to see in the promo video?
A wide range of shots including establishing shots of the outside and
inside of the college and its entrance! Long and mid shots of students
carrying out lessons and extra curricular activities. Close ups of students
talking to the camera about their college experiences. Time lapses to
condense longershots to fit into the short promotional video and not
bore or distract the audience!
7.Where would the logo be placed?
At both the beginning and the end of the promotional video to reinforce
the positive message the college is trying to provide!
8.What style/ tone of music would you like to see in the video?
Unit 16: Film and Video Editing Techniques
Upbeat and bouncy music to fit with the pace of editing in the video, this
will keep audiences engaged throughout their viewing of the video!
9. Would you like to see any text or comments aboutthe college
within the video?
Yes, students names when they are speaking to the camera as well as
the titles of each subject.
10. Which subjects would you most like to see incorporatedin the
promotionalvideo?
Most subjects so it gives a wide variety of what the college has to offe

Created a rushes log after
viewing and critiquing which shots
would possiblybe incorporated
into my video.
The shots I selectedI made a
note off so It would speed up the
pace of my editing.
Edit decisionlist
Nov 2015 I felt there was a lack of student
engagementshots and interviews
with students therefore I sourced
a camera and tripod and went
around the college shooting extra
footage formy promotionalvideo.
Sort through new
footage and decide
which shots would e
used in my promo
video.
Nov 2015 Interviewed client and gained
information about how he wanted
the video to flow and look like.
Look at the answers
from the client and
figure out how I could
meet the client’s
needs!
Dec 2015 Editing re-commenced.Combined
clips to see what flowed and
didn’t work together on screen.
Should make a editors
designs list so I could
follow a plan
Dec 2015 Edited combining clips to see how
they work together.
Choose and add
music to edit.
Dec 2015 Edited combining clips to see how
