1) The MSU autism program is developing an Approved Autism Evaluation Center in partnership with Wardcliff Abilities Center. 2) Current positions in the autism program include a coordinator, consultant, care coordinator, and positions for a developmental behavioral pediatrician and psychologist. 3) Plans for the upcoming year include applying for a LEND program, developing a DBP fellowship training program, expanding training and outreach initiatives, and a telemedicine pilot.

- 2. • Developing an “Approved Autism Evaluation Center” (AAEC) in partnership with Wardcliff Abilities Center • Olga Napolova MSU CHM academic general pediatrician is working with Kathryn Larson, Susan Refior and Marizel Davila Current Year (10/1/14 – 9/30/15)

- 4. • Leadership Development in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) • Division of Maternal and Child Health (HRSA – Health Resources and Services Administration) • Planning continues in anticipation of an RFP release in the Winter of 2015/16 LEND
- 5. • Continuing Medical Education -- for physicians in practice. Presentations to groups of physicians in practice about early identification of children with autism - most recently at the Pediatric Update in February, and at Sparrow Pediatric Grand rounds in April • Graduate Medical Education – for residents in training in pediatrics and family medicine and medicine/pediatrics. Includes incorporation of on-line case studies in residency curriculum, enhancing clinical supervision re: ASD/NDD. Pediatric residents in Lansing are completing CDC case trainings during the beh/dev rotation. Training Initiatives in Autism I
- 6. • Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME). For medical students. Curriculum content across the four years including on-line material, small group discussions, clinical encounters and assessment of student learning. Included in the current curriculum will be expanded in the new CHM Shared Discovery Curriculum. • Parent input will be utilized in the development of each of these initiatives • Training and outreach will be coordinated with other MDHHS programs and other universities in Michigan Training Initiatives in Autism II
- 7. • Advisory Committee • Quarterly Cross Discipline Meetings • Community Resource Presentations – MSU program participation in the Autism Speaks Walk Resource Fair at Ford Field – October 4th – Bambi VanWoert and Jane Turner will co- present on November 12, 2015 at the Early On Conference in Traverse City, “Everyday Heroes & Quality Practices: The Power of Early Intervention”. Their three hour workshop is titled Autism: early identification, the medical home and working with families Other Outreach
- 8. • Support for DBP and psychologist positions and expansion of the AAEC • Partnership with other DBP (Richtsmeier, GR; O’Connell, Flint) and NDD (Dodge, GR) colleagues in autism and NDDs Upcoming Year (10/1/15 – 9/30/16)
