- 2. USER GENERATED CONTENT. (UGC,COMMUNITY CREATED CONTENT) Content created by library users and uploaded to the world wide web. Includes social metadata.

- 4. USER GENERATED CONTENT Delicious Fiction Press & FanFiction Net.
- 5. 1. Entirely user created and posted using third party sites (Facebook, YouTube, Flickr etc.) on a personal account. 2. User created and posted to a libray's own website (Book reviews, comments). 3. User created and posted to a library's thrid party site (it's Facebook page, Twitter etc.) 4. Library created with material then added by the user (Trove). 5. Users adapting other user's content and then posting the new version.
- 6. UGC ADVANTAGES. Already being used. Client familiarity. Engagement with all types of users. Could attract new users. Value adds library content or extends it by:- providing new information. - providing expertise/time. - providing different opinions.
- 7. UGC ADVANTAGES. Way to test services. Idea generating. Problem solving (crowdsourcing). Can be as simple or complex and low cost or expensive as a library wishes (and it's budget allows!).
- 8. UGC POTENTIAL ISSUES. Privacy. What collected and who can access? Negative content = bad publicity. Copyright. User or library? Infringement. User takeout - reuse content. - site closure.
- 9. UGC POTENTIAL ISSUES. Costs: Internet access. Software. Staff training. Lack of user involvement. Loss of control. Archiving. What. How. Context. Statistics. Collecting. Separating.
- 10. UGC POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS. Clear policies around the collection of UGC related data and who has access. Separate content from user's main account. Library retains moderation rights. Acceptable posting policy known and enforced.
- 11. UGC POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS. User retains ownership of content. Creative Commons Licences. Develop software to allow – user takeout. - archiving. - statistic collection. Explore free software options. Combine with other libraries/organisation.
