Using a Blog

      By:

What is a Blog?
• There are many different definitions on what a
blog is but the most common is “Blogs are
usually maintained by an individual with
regular entries of commentary, descriptions of
events, or other material such as graphics or
  video. “
• Blogs can be used in schools, businesses or for
  personal purposes.
Websites for Blogs
• The first website that comes up when you
type in the word “blog” on Google is
  Blogger.com.
• There are others such as
WordPress.com, Tumblr and then on social
websites like Facebook and Twitter. You can
also find blogs on sites where people have a
similar interest and want to talk about it.
How to start
• For most sites, they want you to create a
profile. So just a username and password
along with an email to give you updates and
  such.
• Once this is done, explore your profile.
• On Blogger.com, it brings up your
“Dashboard” where it gives you many options
  to choose from.
Options on a Blog Site
• On Blogger, it will show you how many blogs you
have, where to create new posts, edit older
ones, settings for your blog, a design option and a
link to show what your blog looks like.
• Blogger lets you put pictures up and other items that
they call “gadgets”. This can range from tabs on the
side of the screen or a visitor count of how many
  people look at your page.
• It allows you to change the color of the
background, lets you arrange and format how your
blog posts will show up and so on.
Posting to your Blog
• Just how exactly do you post something to a blog?
• Well, I will use Blogger again as an example. On your
“Dashboard”, it gives you the option of New Post. Click on it
and it takes you to another page. You will have a section to
enter the title, a section to enter in the information you want
to post, have the ability to insert pictures and links that are
lined in between the title box and the message box and then
once you are done, scroll down to see the Publish Post button
and click it. It will take you to another page that will give the
option to view the post on your Blog or to return to the
  “Dashboard”.
Interacting with others
• Interacting with other people is quite simple really. Say you
want your friends to know that you have a blog and know that
they will be interested in the subject you are talking about.
• All you have to do is send them a link to your blog by being on
that page, copying the link and pasting it in an email or a
social site and send it to them.
• Take Blogger for example; when you want to comment on
someone’s post, you scroll down to the bottom of that
post, hit comment and it should take you to another screen
where it allows you to type your message into the box, select
what kind of profile you are using and then click submit.

• There are many others, just look up what you are
interested in. I’m sure there’s a blog about it.
