Editor's Notes

  • #2: Crosswalk Standards:CC.3.W.7 Research to Build and Present Knowledge: Conduct short research projects that build knowledge about a topic.CC.3.W.8 Research to Build and Present Knowledge: Recall information from experiences or gather information from print and digital sources; take brief notes on sources and sort evidence into provided categories.CC.4.W.8 Research to Build and Present Knowledge: Recall relevant information from experiences or gather relevant information from print and digital sources; take notes and categorize information, and provide a list of sources.
  • #3: Researchcan be hard work. Finding the right source, taking notes, citing sources, and remembering how to find those sources again can all be very challenging on the Internet. A bookmarking tool can help you save the sites on which you were working and relocate them again, even on a different computer.
  • #4: There are many web2.0 sites and social sites available on the Internet. Social bookmarking sites allow users to share their bookmarks with others. One of the bookmarking sites stands out above the rest.
  • #5: Diigo is a social bookmarking tool that has many advantages over others. It has the capability of highlighting, taking notes, and making annotations on webpages. Diigo is not a search engine, it is more like a journal, where you store your notes. Diigo runs as a background program, so you use it with your own Web browser.
  • #6: Diigo is a social bookmarking tool where you can save your bookmarks and share them with others. You are able to organize your information, retrieve new information, and make notes on the information itself. Others can be added to your “groups” to receive updates of your bookmarks.
  • #7: Besides being a program that saves your bookmarks, it is a collaboration tool as well. Students are able to collaboratively work on projects, sharing information with each other. This is a screenshot from a webpage. The paragraph on Skin is highlighted in yellow and I have added a sticky note with a comment I shared with the students. Because I have chosen cleavelandsclass on the dropdown box, it will be shared with that group on the Diigo bookmarks page.
  • #8: The section with a red box around it pops up on the screen when you select the digolet. Then, you will be able to highlight, bookmark, place a sticky note, share, or go to your Diigo account.
  • #9: After you have highlighted text on a webpage, this is what you will see on your Diigo account.
  • #10: The fast pace technology is advancing calls for new tools and improved practices to meet the 21-century demands. Diigois improving how we find, share, and save information. Here is what Diigo can do for you and your students.
  • #11: Diigo saves and shares bookmarks, first and foremost. Members of groups are able to share with only each other or make their bookmarks available to the public. Here is a copy of a bookmark that is saved. The linked title is first, then any notes that were written by the reader about this site. At the bottom, are the tags chosen to locate this resource when searching.
  • #12: Notes can be added to bookmarks, whichcan remain private (only you are capable of viewing) or shared with others. Text on the websitecan be highlighted which is saved with the bookmark in Diigo. Anytime you access this Website, the highlighted text will continue to be highlighted.
  • #13: Sticky notes, can be added to bookmarked links (by creator of link or others), as well as comments about the site or to the one who made the comments. When the site is accessed again, the sticky notes continue to appear.
  • #14: Searching for Websites using Tags is efficient. By marking your research for a particular project with specific tags, you are able to quickly and easily search for it through the tags with Diigo.
  • #16: Diigo also allows its users to save typed text without a bookmark. Any amount of text can be saved, as can other media.
  • #17: Any images can be added to Diigo with notes written and tags used. This is a whole other aspect of digital note taking, the ability to add pictures in your notes or project.
  • #18: Embedded videos can also be bookmarked and saved in Diigo. Never before have research papers been so interesting.
  • #19: To learn more about the features of Diigo and how to set up an account, go to www.diigo.com and begin. There are many videos from diigobuzz available on the diigohttp://www.diigo.com/learn_more/researchwebsite, as well as many tutorials available on youtube.
