The UCSD Quartzite project is focused on developing advanced optical infrastructure for campus research, aiming to enhance data bandwidth and connectivity through the deployment of a network of optical connections. By 2008, the project plans to provide over 50 endpoints capable of 10 Gbps services, integrating various research facilities and enhancing computation capabilities for scientific applications. The deployment has already shown significant improvements in network design and is expected to expand the university's research cyber-infrastructure further.
