Why Did We Choose the bookstore model for this library? The visit to Anythink Public Libraries Empowers library users (students) Promotes browsing-increased usage of difficult to locate materials  Increased circulation, decreased reference desk needs      Cataloging support-Norm video clip about supportive of contract   ©   10/28/2011

Cautious discussion and research, because we almost never say "No."  Can we do this? Breaking down our mental barriers.  Who will be affected and how will it impact our staff?  Should we do this? What are the negatives? Accepting the task. Mackin is about making life easier for our customers, in whatever form that takes. Moving Forward Together Holli learns that she must designate the headings and begins creating lists.   Agreeing on timelines and procedures.  8/26-Visit to Anythink Public Libraries 8/27-Mackin approached via Sales Rep 9/1- Mackin agrees to take this on 9/1- District cataloger begins process of creating BISAC-based grid. The final version was completed 6 months later.  9/1-3/29-Title Selections-6031 titles THE PHONE CALL 4/1 Deadline to have the order and final grid to Mackin.  4/1 to 7/11 Mackin works on preparing the collection for delivery.  5/31-7/15 Signage created 6/16 Layout of the library 6/16 Adjustment of the grid 6/22 Import of the test records and resolution of the problems 7/12-7/14 Imports of the production records 7/12 Collection delivered and shelved.     Cataloging staff from Mackin and SVVSD in communication. Ann and Holli work together to build the collection. Many phone calls. Many lists. Many hours.  Regular communication was key.   10/28/2011 ©

In excess of 500 hours off the clock making designations(classification of titles) As the first public elementary school to pilot this, there was nobody to call for advice.  No classification system is perfect Pirates Multi genre fiction Finding duplications and making designation decisions.       Mackin Challenges Programming for something totally different.
