Using Workforce Information in Case Management and Orientation Sessions November 18, 2010
Objectives You will be able to: Explain how you will use case management materials and activities to guide student goal-setting. Explain the usefulness of a local workforce reference binder. Identify the advantages and challenges of implementing an orientation and explain how you can adapt activities to “intakes.”
Transforming Adult Education Look at the chart on page 7. Where do you think your program/class/group is on this continuum of transformation? What will you need to do  1) as a program and  2) as an administrator, teacher, case manager, etc. to move your services and classes toward the right side of the continuum.
Taking a Case Management Approach Discussion . . . What did you use? What was easy to use? difficult to use?  Why? What didn’t you use and what prevented you from using it? What else would you like to use?
Foundation Skills Discuss the Foundation Skills and how you have incorporated them into intake/orientation, goal-setting and review, assessment, and instruction. How could you use the Foundation Skills in the future?
Integrating Career Awareness A goal of this curriculum is to encourage all students, at all levels, to begin thinking about and identifying . . .  . . . Short and long term career educational life  goals.
Student Orientation Small group discussion . . . Would this idea work for your program? At your location? What information and activities would you include in a small group orientation? How could you adapt this to an individual intake process? How would teachers and tutors get this information?
Workforce Reference Binders Purpose(s) Brainstorming . . .  What information should be included in these binders? Where and how could you get this information? How can case managers, teachers/tutors, and students use this information?
Next Steps What would you like to add to your services or instruction? What would you like to change or begin using?
