1.3 Test Diagram
1.4 Prerequisites
1.4.1 Real cable
At least one real cable with multiple pairs, in order to have real crosstalk between various DSL lines.
Amount of pairs: 48 pairs is proposed for the field trial.
The cable should be representative of real cable in use in the customer’s distribution network. In
particular the binder structure of the cable should be representative of actual cables.
Length: preferably between 400 m - 500 m, maximum 1000 m (on longer cable lengths, vectoring gains
are lower)
Multiple cables or cable lengths can be tested if available.
1.4.2 VDSL profiles
ANNEX A - CLI CONFIGURATION OF PROPOSED PROFILES of this document contains ALU proposed
profiles to be used for the testing.

2 VECTORING TESTS
2.1 System setup and pre-tests
Set-up equipment in lab and connect to test cable.
Pretests on the test cable to include loss vs. frequency for all lines, background noise measurement and
xtalk matrix measurement (vectored mode).
This phase will provide a baseline for testing and identify any issues with test cable, connectors, noise
etc. As part of this testing, non-vectored and vectored performance will be tested on 48 lines for 400m
cable in fast mode. Single line rate performance will also be measured for 48 lines (note that this
measurement will take around 90 minutes for 48 lines as each line must be initialized separately).
A Python based scripting tool is available for automated data collection and presentation.
2.2 Vectoring performance
2.2.1 Purpose
An assessment of the vectoring performance can be realized by making comparisons between the so
called “single line” rate, “full fext” rate and the “vectored” rate.
In order to test the vectoring capabilities under sufficient processing load, it is recommended to include
at least 48 lines in the test.
Single line rate
Is the rate when only one line is active while all others are configured in “no admin-up” state. In this
case, no crosstalk is possible between the VDSL2 lines assigned for the vectoring test. It is possible that
other ADSLx services are present; as such there might be crosstalk impact on the VDSL2 rates in
vectored or non-vectored mode.
Full FEXT rates (or non-vectored rates)
Means that the rates are measured when all VDSL2 lines have stable Showtime and when vectoring is not
configured. This is the legacy VDSL2 mode.
Vectored rates
Means the stable Showtime rates when vectoring is enabled to cancel the FEXT.
2.2.2 Scenario 1
The following measurement sequence will be used for a subset of the profile combinations.
1. Single line mode
2. Full FEXT
3. Vectored mode
2.2.3 Output
Counters, operational, carrier and coefficient data will be acquired.

The 3 rates, both for US and DS and for the indicated 3 profiles, can be listed:
 Rate comparison SLR, FFR, VR
 Rate gain w.r.t. the legacy VDSL2 rates also known as FFR
 Efficiency VR w.r.t. the SLR

Revision 1 1 June 2015 [Page 5 of 29] 1.3 Test Diagram 1.4 Prerequisites 1.4.1 Real cable At least one real cable with multiple pairs, in order to have real crosstalk between various DSL lines. Amount of pairs: 48 pairs is proposed for the field trial. The cable should be representative of real cable in use in the customer’s distribution network. In particular the binder structure of the cable should be representative of actual cables. Length: preferably between 400 m - 500 m, maximum 1000 m (on longer cable lengths, vectoring gains are lower) Multiple cables or cable lengths can be tested if available. 1.4.2 VDSL profiles ANNEX A - CLI CONFIGURATION OF PROPOSED PROFILES of this document contains ALU proposed profiles to be used for the testing.
  • 6. ISAM FD VDSL VECTORING - TEST PLAN & PROCEDURE © Copyright 2014 Alcatel-Lucent All Rights Reserved. Revision 1 1 June 2015 [Page 6 of 29] 2 VECTORING TESTS 2.1 System setup and pre-tests Set-up equipment in lab and connect to test cable. Pretests on the test cable to include loss vs. frequency for all lines, background noise measurement and xtalk matrix measurement (vectored mode). This phase will provide a baseline for testing and identify any issues with test cable, connectors, noise etc. As part of this testing, non-vectored and vectored performance will be tested on 48 lines for 400m cable in fast mode. Single line rate performance will also be measured for 48 lines (note that this measurement will take around 90 minutes for 48 lines as each line must be initialized separately). A Python based scripting tool is available for automated data collection and presentation. 2.2 Vectoring performance 2.2.1 Purpose An assessment of the vectoring performance can be realized by making comparisons between the so called “single line” rate, “full fext” rate and the “vectored” rate. In order to test the vectoring capabilities under sufficient processing load, it is recommended to include at least 48 lines in the test. Single line rate Is the rate when only one line is active while all others are configured in “no admin-up” state. In this case, no crosstalk is possible between the VDSL2 lines assigned for the vectoring test. It is possible that other ADSLx services are present; as such there might be crosstalk impact on the VDSL2 rates in vectored or non-vectored mode. Full FEXT rates (or non-vectored rates) Means that the rates are measured when all VDSL2 lines have stable Showtime and when vectoring is not configured. This is the legacy VDSL2 mode. Vectored rates Means the stable Showtime rates when vectoring is enabled to cancel the FEXT. 2.2.2 Scenario 1 The following measurement sequence will be used for a subset of the profile combinations. 1. Single line mode 2. Full FEXT 3. Vectored mode 2.2.3 Output Counters, operational, carrier and coefficient data will be acquired.
