- 3. 1) Business Requirements (Problem Statement) :- We have decided to offer the installment of our Library Software in the Comsats University. This software would be available and will be used by students of the university and the Facility Staff of Comsats University to check the availability of the books and borrowing them, and by the Librarian to update the library database. The availability of E-Books is also present. The main purpose of this documentation is to inspect and explain the upper-level needs and features of the Library Software. It alights the capabilities and facilities provided by a Library. The details of what are the important wants of the Library System and if it fulfils these needs are fully explained in this document.
- 4. 1.1) Project Background :- The Borrowing of books, returning of books and viewing the available books of the Comsats University Library is currently done manually. In the University, the students have to go to the Library and check the available books at the Library. Students go there and check the books available and borrow the books if the books are available otherwise it is no use for the student to come to the library. Then the Librarian checks the Student ID and allows the member to check out the book and then Librarian then updates the member books issued status and also the books status. This takes at least half to one hours to get this done if the member is available nearby, otherwise it takes more time.

Fast and secure registration and Book transaction. Unable to use the system without any Computer, mobile or any other source
- 6. 1.3) Business Risks: The University has been doing this manual process for a long period of time and the introduction of the new library software system will resolve many issues. It is obvious some students and staff will not initially accept the new system due to various reasons. As with any new library system, a new trend will begin for students who have never issued or visited library in the University. The University should be ready to handle all challenges through continuous training.
- 7. 1.4) Assumptions And Dependencies:- Assumption: The current file storage system is the basis of design of the new system. Dependency: When the new system is in place, the paper form is a secondary option for using as a reserve. Assumption: For the secondary storage system, the availability of the printer is must at the library. Dependency: Training time is necessary for the user and the librarian to completely understand the working of the system. Dependency: For the online E-portal the internet is required. Inside the university, the internet is provided freely, but outside the students will have to manage their own.
- 8. 2)Vision of the Solution The new system will provide easy and secure management in a friendly environment within the University that is both conducive and supportive for the University business and students needs thereby improving relations and increasing revenue. 2.1)Vision Statement Our vision is that our software will have the best system in its field and will work as promised. This system will drive University revenue and allow the University to plan successful Library Books management. The system will delight the University students by allowing them easily manageable Library system. With the incorporation of a digital system, and database management system, a secure online E-Library system can also be implemented in future, and a Web portal for students, the new system will enable University built its business goals and encourage future student strength growth.
- 9. 2.3)Major Features :- The new Library system will have the following features: • A Web Portal of E-books for the Students. • A database to store all books data and receive updates for the new added books in the library. • Secure online book issuing system to issue books to all staff and students. • E-mail notification upon issuing and returning book. • Web portal for librarian to manage Library data features. • Email notification of last return date of a issued book.
- 10. 2.4)Scope The New Comsats Library Management System that is to be developed provides the Students of the University Library and staff with books information, online viewing of books and many other facilities. The Library Management System is supposed to have the following detailed features. 2.4.1)Scope of Initial Release The early release of the new system will contain an online registration form for the students, an online E-Book portal and a backend database to process and store registration information and the Library System’s information, a secure internal network, and a Library’s administrators’ portal. This initial release will also include installation, configuration, and support documentation for the Librarian and the University Students and Staff. Since this initial release will be fully functional, it is essential to include user and technical support documentation to easily use and configure the E-portal so it is practically usable in the new Library environment. The product provides the members with online blocking of books capabilities and the library Management System is up and running all day.
- 11. 2.4.2)Scope of Subsequent Release :- Future releases will include: • Online Book issues cancellation capability. • Online Account Deletion request capability. • Mobile SMS notification upon issuing and returning book which can be enabled and disable. • Online viewing of Student information. • Online editing of Student information. • View and update information online for better record keeping by Librarian and University staff. • Allows Comsats University the capability to analyze Student input and feedback, portal usage patterns, including data usage.
