Many different businesses try to motivate their staff so they can work harder and more efficiently,
which will result in many advantages for the business itself. Motivation is the encouragement of staff
by a business and it is very significant because if workers are motivated, they are likely to be more
productive within the business as well as being more flexible and dynamic. Consequently, they will be
energetic and prepared to try something new at short notice and discuss new ideas, which will be
beneficial to the business because it will mean that their workers are willing to be involved with a
positive attitude.
I have chosen to conduct my research at a small bakery shop located in Edmonton Green Shopping
Centre called Deli Twist. My project aim is to find all the various issues and/or reasons for improving
the motivation of staff at Deli Twist; using primary and secondary research. For primary research, I
visited the shop in person and handed out questionnaires which were filled in by all the 7 members of
staff working there. This way I can find out how the small business I have chosen can improve the
way it motivates its staff and what factors are affecting their performance negatively, in their
workplace. Keeping staffs motivated is important because it can affect the way in which they provide

longer and more stable environment. Compared to the previous book we read as a class, May takes a
deeper look into history and finds geopolitical reasoning for the events of the postwar age. The
