- 3. The internet is a complex system. The internet has revolutionized the way we think, gather and send out information, communicate and learn. Just to name a few. The internet was first thought of in 1962 by a man named J.C.R. Licklider who dreamed of the world being connected by computers. Introduction to the Internet
- 4. Licklider called it the “Galactic Network” where people could communicate through a fast and highly advanced system in which everyone could participate. This man’s dream has become an integral part of our society and has led the world, or the majority of it, to success and the future of communications.

The concept of a network where there could be User-to-User communication quickly became a popular thing amongst the world and within years the internet sprouted into something of unimaginable importance. The world wouldn’t be the place it is today without it, in countries that can afford network.
- 6. Web 2.0: The Basics
- 7. Web 2.0 is the new wave of internet. It’s how we chat in IRC’s (Internet Relay Chats), play online games and scan the globe with Google earth. Web 2.0 is an interactive system, allowing businesses, customers and users a like accessibility to more information and communication.
- 8. Web 2.0 gives us access to more advanced, faster and intricate programs and giving the user his or her say. The new internet, as it is referred to by many, gives us the opportunity to create a site in which the administrator, or creator, of the site has complete power over. He or she can write down or share his or her view on anything and everything. Though there are certain rules and restrictions that are in place, and they are as follow.
- 9. 1. Each distinct network would have to stand on its own and no internal changes could be required to any such network to connect it to the Internet.
- 10. 2. Communications would be on a best effort basis. If a packet didn't make it to the final destination, it would shortly be retransmitted from the source.
- 11. 3. Black boxes would be used to connect the networks; these would later be called gateways and routers. There would be no information retained by the gateways about the individual flows of packets passing through them, thereby keeping them simple and avoiding complicated adaptation and recovery from various failure modes.
- 12. 1. There would be no global control at the operations level.
- 13. As you can see by these rules or guidelines, the internet is practically unrestricted and limitless. Web 2.0 is the new generation of processing and communicating, and with each new generation can only come new options and functions. Whether they are bad or good, it’s how we use the network that determines this.
- 14. What are the advantages and disadvantages of Web 2.0 if we were to implement it into OSC? As with every system in the world, there are ways that Web 2.0 can be an advantage and a disadvantage to our schooling.
- 15. The Advantages In OSC, we strive for unity in diversity, but what does this mean? It means the times are changing, and we look into the future and embrace it together. Web 2.0 gives us the ability to not only embrace the future together but, alongside the rest of the world, be fully accredited as an international school.

Web 2.0 will give the students of OSC a wider range on society’s point of view and thus will increase the knowledge and understanding of people and our world, which is an essential piece of our education. Instead of being limited to our one way information system, we would be able to receive and deposit information easily and effectively.
- 17. In addition, the Web 2.0 network would bring an efficient and effective way of transmitting more information to families that potentially could become part of OSC.
- 18. The Disadvantages Web 2.0 gives the students of OSC more freedom in what they do with they internet. Though, with freedom comes responsibility and some students don’t have the ability to use this tool to everyone’s advantage. Some people think that students minds are like a sponge, absorbing everything and believing everything you tell them. As a result of this, some people may be weary about the kinds of information the students are receiving from the internet.

Web 2.0 gives everyone the ability to access and create what they want, and this means that there is a lot of information out on the internet that is incorrect, whether it is intentionally incorrect or not. Web 2.0 enables the student to say and do whatever he/she wants to do within the confines of the school IT labs. If the person has the ability to use the internet well, he/she could seriously damage the OSC reputation and approach towards technology. One can do a lot of things with the internet and unfortunately, the bad and the good things are at about the same level.
- 20. But the fact remains that the system can only be misused by an individual and not the system itself.
- 21. My Opinion Web 2.0 is an upgrade that is necessary to undergo if OSC wants to become an accredited international school as time moves on. The advantages strongly outweigh the disadvantages. The system can easily be controlled if the students are well disciplined. Web 2.0 will boost the reputation and schooling standard of OSC. It’s an advanced system that will propel us into the future of technology.
