"Tell me and I forget, show me and I
remember, involve me and I understand."
 A WebQuest is defined as an inquiry-oriented
online tool for learning. It is a classroom based
lesson and most or all of the information that
students explore and evaluate comes from the
World Wide Web.
 classroom project that is set in the web
 information is explored on the World Wide
Web
 built around resources preselected by teachers
so that students spend time using resources
instead of looking for the resources
 usually involves group work
 inquiry-oriented online tool for learning
Web quests
 Tomorrow’s workers will need to be able to work
in teams.
 Students assume a role that allows them to
investigate an issue through their view. Students
are responsible for the own learning therefore they
construct a deeper understanding of the content
(March, T. 2000).
 WebQuests requires higher level thinking, not
simply memorizing.
Common Core and WebQuests
Six Components
1. Introduction
2. Task
3. Process
4. Resources
5. Evaluation
6. Conclusion
 The best topics for a WebQuest are those that
allow for creativity. Real life problems with
several solutions are best.
 Do not use WebQuests to teach factual
information like times tables or the periodic
table.
 You will need a web server to post the
WebQuest to the Internet and students will
need internet access.

Editor's Notes

  • #2: Today I am going to be talking about webquests and I added my favorite quote to the bottom of this slide it says tell me and I forget, show me and I remember, involve me and I understand. I think this quote lends itself perfectly to what I am going to present today. Technology in general is one amazing way we can involve our students so that they truly understand and grasp the content. Especially with the implementation of common core, and the need for 21 st century thinkers, technology is truly the way of future generations.
  • #4: Group work- can be done in pairs or even groups of 3. Students are usually given a problem or scenario and then are asked to investigate and come up with appropriate solutions (inquiry oriented learning). This inquiry-oriented online tool for learning really taps into the higher level thinking skills such as problem-solving, creativity, judgment, so students are not just passively absorbing information but they are taking the information and creating something new. Effective inquiry is more that asking questions. It is not so much of seeking the right answer but rather seeking appropriate solutions. It is investigating problems and scenarios. Project that is set in the web so that students can use the internet to answer questions. Preselected resources by teachers. Higher level thinking analysis, problem-solving, creativity, and judgment.
  • #5: Blooms taxonomy. Starting from the simplest to the most complex. While the students are exploring the different websites, they in the understanding phase where they make sense of what they have learned and depending on what the webquest calls for, they may apply analyze evaluate or create something new tapping into the higher order thinking skills.
  • #6: Webquests usually require team work. Team work is important in many jobs and we need to teach our students how to work together. Teachers need to be able to work with their grade level teams. Common Core Standards are really pushing for the 21 st century working world and everyone will need to be able to work as a team. We all come to school with different expereinces in our lives and different background knowledge. Webquests give students a role and they investigate the resources while constructing their own learning. Requires higher level thinking because students are putting multiple sources of data together and creating something new. Synthesize the information. Most webquests will ask the students to research both sides of an argument and then choose a side and defend it or try to persuade. Students are nto simply viewing the textbook all of the time in order to read informational text but they can use the world wide web for this too.
  • #7: They are built in primarily the same way. Introduction provides background information and motivational scenario. You can be an explorer or researcher. For example, you are a world famous travel guide planning a comprehensive guide/brochure through California’s Gold Rush. Task is a formal description of what students will have accomplished by the end of the WebQuest. For example, your task is to create a multimedia guide through California in the form of a Keynote presentation in order to explain the economic, social and political life. Process is the steps that the learners must go through in order to complete the task. For example, Resources consist of the web sites that students will need to use to complete the task. These are preselected by the teacher and will be embedded into the resources page. Evaluation. Each WebQuest needs a rubric for evaluating student work. Conclusion. This step allows for reflection by the students. Students may also suggest ways of improving this for the future.
  • #8: examples What was it like to live during the California Gold Rush? In groups of three, become an expert on Washington DC. Create an imovie, postcard, power point, Students go shopping on a budget all while using coupons, decimals to save the most money. Design something using area and perimeter. Make a book, postcard, power point, imovie, etc.
  • #9: Teacherweb is $27/year Zunal is web-based software 77kait22 nicole7722 You can also create a web quest through power point or keynote.
