So what is Web 2.0?Tim O’ReillyTo find something comparable, you have to go back 500 yrs to the printing press Printing destroyed the old world of kings and aristocracies.“Technology is shifting power away from theeditors, the publishers, the establishment, the media elite. Now it’s the people who are taking control.” ~ Rupert MurdochWeb 2.0 for Beginners- Mike Stopforth
Kevin Kelly, 2005The scope of the Web today is hard to fathom.Internet now allows participation by virtually anyone with Internet access. We Are the Web!
So, what is the impact on Teaching & Learning? Web 2.0 has brought “a new wave of innovation for teaching and learning” (Alexander, Educause, 2006) Students are clamoring for these technologies Web 2.0 tools allow for constructivism Yet many teachers “don’t want to use new technologies at all” (Presky, 2007, p.41)
The way we werein 1900...…and now, my classroom today…
Is this still how my student see me?

Learning TheoryConnectivism: A Learning Theory for the Digital Age – George Siemens Technology is altering (rewiring) our brains. The tools we use define and shape our thinking. Our ability to learn what we need for tomorrow is more important than what we know today. Know-how and know-what is being supplemented with know-where (the understanding of where to find knowledge needed). taken from of The Outsourcing Knowledge
Can anyone else think of an employment sector other than K-12 and postsecondary education where employees have the right to refuse to use technology? A grocery store checker doesn't get to say 'No thanks, I don't think I'll use a register.' A stockbroker doesn't get to say, 'No thanks, I don't think I'll use a computer.' An architect doesn't get to say, 'No thanks, I don't think I'll use AutoCAD.’ But in education, we plead and implore and incentivize but we never seem to require.~ Scott McLeod, Iowa State Univ.
