Natural Resources Webquest
There's a new neighbour
moving to the
neighbourhood....
Lulu is thinking about moving from planet
Wendy into your neighbourhood! Before he
decides though, Lulu wants to know what types
of natural resources planet Earth has. He is
also really concerned about not wasting the
natural resources. You decide to do some
research and show Lulu an advertising about the
natural resources located on planet Earth and
how he can help take care of Earth while he's
here!
In order to collect research and prepare for your presentation, you
are going to:
-complete 2 individual activities from the
"Individual Activities" section.
-complete 2 group activities from the "Group
Activities" section.
Then, you are going to create a final advertising in which you try to
convince Lulu to live on planet Earth because of all the resources
available to him.

1st SESSION Individual Activities.
Activity 1:
To start this unit, you need begin by finding out what natural resources are! Go to
http://www.olliesworld.com/planet/usa/info/info/sr_nr03.htm and read about natural
resources. Then, in your science journal describe:
1) what natural resources are;
2) examples of natural resources;
3) what we use natural resources for;
4) what problem exists with natural resources;
5) click on the right arrow and read about renewable and non-renewable resources.
Describe the differences in your science journal.
Once everyone has read the article and wrote their findings in their science journals, we
will discuss the answers as a class!
2nd SESSION Individual Activities.
Activity 2:
Think about the natural resources you use in your own home. Make a list of all the
natural resources you use everyday. Decide which of the resources you use daily is a
nonrenewable resource. Choose two of the nonrenewable resources you listed. Think of
ways that you could conserve those resources in your every day life. In your science
journal, draw two pictures and their description in which you either:
(a)use an alternative source of energy to the nonrenewable resource you currently use,
or
b)think of a way you can conserve the nonrenewable resource you use every day.
For example, if you think that you are wasting too much water or energy using your washing machine, you might decide
to wash your clothes by hand or to use the washing machine only when it is completely full.
3rd SESSION Group Activities.
Activity 1:
The Agent Grant from the Environmental Intelligence Unit
needs your help. With a partner, you are going to complete
one of the missions the Agent tells you about. Go to

flash_full.shtml .Your teacher will tell you which mission
you and your partner have to fulfill.
4th SESSION Group Activities.
Activity 2:
We use a lot of resources, and create a lot of waste, in our classroom!
For this activity, you are going to work with a group of four people to identify the
resources we use at our school. You will need a camera to take pictures of all the
resources you’ll find there. You will only have 10 minutes to look around the school
before returning to the classroom. With your group, create a list of all the resources you
see being used around the school. Once you have identified all of the natural resources
you observed, you and your group will create a plan for how the school can conserve
some of our resources.
Once finished, you will have to explain your plan to the rest of your classmates and
compare your ideas.
5th SESSION Final Presentation.
Steps:
For your final presentation, you are going to work with a group of two or three classmates to make a
presentation for Lulu using the information you learned in this unit about the natural resources Earth has
to offer, how those natural resources can be conserved, and what sustainable practices he can use once he
gets to Earth to help make the community better.
You will need to create a 3-4 minute advertising that includes the following information:
-the types of natural resources
-why natural resources are important
-what can be done to conserve natural resources
Rubric:
Your final presentation will be worth 20 points. Below is the rubric that will be used to
grade your project. Make sure you have included everything you need in your
presentation!
