Telecommunications engineering, or telecom
engineering, is an engineering discipline that brings
together electrical engineering with computer science
to enhance telecommunication systems.The work
ranges from basic circuit design to strategic mass
developments. A telecommunication engineer is
responsible for designing and overseeing the
installation of telecommunications equipment and
facilities, such as complex electronic switching
systems, copper wire telephone facilities, and fiber
optics. Telecommunication engineering also overlaps
heavily with broadcast engineering.
A telecom equipment engineer is an
electronics engineer that designs equipment
such as routers, switches, multiplexers, and
other specialized computer/electronics
equipment designed to be used in the
telecommunication network infrastructure.
A basic Telecommunication consists of three primary
units that are always present in some form.
1)Transmitter
2)Medium
3)Reciever
A Transmitter is a collection of one or more electronic
devices or circuits that convert the original source
information to inform suitable for transmission over a
particularly transmission medium.
There are two types of Medium.
1)Unguided Medium
Which includes (Free Space/Air)
2)Guided Medium
Which includes :
Twisted Pair
Fiber Obtics
A Reciever is a collection of electronic devices
and ckts, that accepts the transmitted signal
from the transmission medium and then
converts those signals back to the original form.
There are three types
1)Simplex
2)Half Duplex
3)Full Duplex
Simplex is a one way communication.
It Means that you can only either send
or receive a message or input.
Example: Radio,Remotes etc
Its a (Two way Communication).
You can send and also receive msgs.(But
one at a time)
Example:Walkie Talkie
It is also a Two way communication.
You can also send or receive msgs both
at a time.
Example: Mobile Phones etc.
Message Signal
Carrier Signal
Modulation is simply the process of
changing one or more properties or
parameters of a high frequency Analog
Carrier in proportion with low frequency
Information Signal(Message Signal).
There are various types of modulation, but
the following two modulations are widely
used.
1)A.m Modulation
2)F.m Modulation
Modulation is one of the most important aspect of
Telecom Engineering..
It is necessay because if we will transfer only message
signal of low frequenies, then we will have to make
unpractically large anteenas,which is impossible.
It consumes very less time for the trasformation of
signals.
Elf 30Hz to 300Hz
VF 300Hz to 3Khz
VLF 3Khz to 30Khz
Lf 30Khz to 300Khz
MF 300Khz to 3MHz
HF 3MHz to 30MHz
VHF 30MHz to 300Mhz
UHF 300Mhz to 3GHz
SHF 3Ghz to 30Ghz
Ehf 30GHz to 300GHz
It includes Ac Power Distribution signal and low
Frequency Telementy Signals.
It includes fequencies generally associated with
Human Speech,
Standard Telephone Channels have a 3khz bandwidth
It includes the upper end of human hearing range.
VLF are used for some Govt. and Military system such
as Submarine Communications.
It is used primarily for Marine and
Aeronotical Navigation System.
It is used For Commercial AM
Broadcasting.
Mostly Two Way Radio Communication use
this range.
Amateur Radio and citizen Band use this
frequency
It is used for Commercial FM
Broadcasting and Commercial T.v
Broadcasting.
It is used for T.v broadcasting,Land
mobile communication and Cellular
Telephones.
It includes majority of Frequency used
for Microwave and Satellite radio
Communication Systems.
It is seldom used for Radio Communications
and it is accepted in very sophisticated
expensive and specialized applications.
Thank You
