The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) is an independent, non-governmental body, which has exercised responsibilities over cinema for a hundred years, and over video and subsequently DVD since 1985. The bbfc was made in 1912 by the film industry when other people were trying to get their own, varying the censorship standards on films. 12a means that anyone aged or over can go and see the film unaccompanied.
