- 3. New Vision The South Carolina State Library is a national model for innovation, collaboration, leadership and effectiveness. It is the keystone in South Carolina’s intellectual landscape.
- 4. New Mission We optimize South Carolina’s investment in library and information services. Supporting good governance for South Carolinians through the provision of research and information services to elected officials and state government personnel. Providing equal access to information for all South Carolinians. Ensuring collaboration and cooperation among information providers and cultural institutions. Defining standards for libraries and librarianship that promote professionalism and excellence among library personnel statewide. Providing and promoting superior library and information services through research, development and implementation of leading edge practices. Advocating for innovation and learning in order to create a better informed and more highly skilled South Carolina citizenry.

- 12. SchoolRooms An online learning portal for the entire K-12 community. Brings together the best content from all sources into a single search interface. A user-tested interface that includes educator-selected, standards-based content. Offered by SirsiDynix, a leader in Library Automation: http://www.schoolrooms.net/
- 13. SchoolRooms Content 70+ virtual rooms of content. Content organized by audience: Elementary, Middle and High School Rooms, as well as Educator, Librarian and Parent Guides. Approximately 23,000 links to high quality, educational web resources. More than 5 million web pages being crawled by the Best of Web index. Also includes videos, audio recordings, digital images, photographs, educational games, etc...
- 14. SchoolRooms Implementation A statewide implementation, much like DISCUS, for SC’s public libraries and schools. The State Library is serving as the test library. 10 Pilot Sites will assist with best practices for the implementation. DISCUS databases and library catalogs will be integrated, in addition to state specific content. An online registration system is being developed to allow for immediate access to all of our electronic resources. Official statewide launch scheduled for Fall 2008.
