Master Reports Standard viewsSeries of standalone reports
*Reports in bold were
required reports
Platform – database - title - item
Working with R5 reports in JUSP - 30 April 20195
Master reports summarise user actions at different levels
Platform interface from an aggregator, publisher, or other online service
that delivers the content (databases, journals, books, videos,
etc.)
Examples:
ScienceDirect,
EBSCOhost, Wiley
Online Library
Database a collection of records Examples: Medline
Title book, journal or reference work Examples: The Lancet,
Oxford English Dictionary
Item a granular unit of content e.g. a full text article in a journal, an
abstract in a journal, a database record, a dataset, thesis, video
in a database
Example: E-book usage:
counting the challenges
and opportunities
Not all are applicable to all suppliers or content hosts
Metrics : counting user actions
Working with R5 reports in JUSP - 30 April 20196
Investigations
 Total_Item_Investigations
 Unique_Item_Investigations
 Unique_Title_Investigations
Requests
 Total_Item_Requests
 Unique_Item_Requests
 Unique_Title_Requests
Access denied
 No_License
 Limit_Exceeded
Searches
 Searches_Regular
 Searches_Automated
 Searches_Platform
 Searches_Federated
Master reports contain
several metrics, but
standard views are filtered
to show only some
Other report filters: attributes
Working with R5 reports in JUSP - 30 April 20197
Attributes say something about the type of content being used and provide a way of filtering usage.
Along with the metrics types, these define the standard views.
The elements and attributes we will see in the reports today are:
• Access_Type – Controlled or OA_Gold
• YOP – year of publication (version of record) e.g. 2019 – 0001 unknown, 9999 in press
Others are also used to define the filtered standard views, but they aren’t visible in the reports:
• Data_Type – e.g. Journal, Book
• Section_Type - e.g. Article, Chapter (only applicable to TR)
• Access_Method – Regular or Text and Data Mining processes (TDM) – Standard views only include
regular
Summary so far
1. User actions can be summarised at different levels – Platform, Database, Title,
Item – and there are 4 corresponding Master Reports
2. Not all reports are applicable to all suppliers or content hosts
3. Metrics count different types of user action e.g. investigations, searches,
requests, denials
4. Attributes allow reports to be filtered or show a breakdown depending on
requirements
5. Master reports are very detailed and offer lots of flexibility and granularity, but
are very large and not all this detail is needed
6. Standard views are pre-set views with defined metrics and attributes to meet
common use cases
