smart grid.
 To identify opportunities on
application of standards in
developing smart grid.
 To formulate next course of
actions on smart grid.
Introduction
The need for the utilities to modernize the energy network is fast becoming
evident nowadays. The dominant design philosophy for the existing electricity
networks is indeed a legacy from a period when energy was relatively cheap
and plentiful. Inevitably, utilities need to search for an intelligent electric sys-
tem that can handle these challenges in a sustainable, reliable and economic
way.
Smart Grid is the evolution of current electrical grid and an integration of
various tools and technologies i.e. automation and ICT infrastructure, to
enable the existing grid to operate more efficiently and reliably and in the
intervening time offers two-way communication between the consumers and
utility.
Clause 6 of Malaysian Treasury Circulars PK 1 states that all government
agencies must ensure that specification for all procurements are based on
material/equipment of Malaysian of origin which must be based on Malaysian
Standards. Construction material/item including mechanical/electrical equip-
ment must used material/item that are Malaysian of origin(1)
The MS referred in this workshop are developed by the Working Group on
Power System Planning, Operation and Studies (WG/E/7-6) and the Working
Group on Power Systems Management and Associated Information
Exchange (WG/E/7-4). These WGs were established within the Malaysian
Standards Development Systems under the purview of the Department of
Standards Malaysia, a government agency of the Ministry of Science,
Technology and Innovation (MOSTI).
