The good guy is walking to class when he finds a copy of the final history exam they were supposed
to take. The teacher had dropped it on the way to her classroom. The Good Guy has his principles. He
knows to do the right thing and bring it to the teacher. But, all of his peers try to convince him to give
it to them instead. The Bully threatens to beat him up if he isn t given the test, but the Good Guy says
no, and states that he wants to go to college. The Rich Kid offers to pay him for the test. The Good
Guy says no, and states that he wants to go to college. The Rich Kid says that he has plenty of money

the Cute Girl comes over to the Good Guy and explains that she s really worried about her history

always liked him, and if he lets her see the test, she ll go to every school dance with him that year. He

Hip-Hop and Hyper-Commercialism
Hip Hop and Hyper commercialism Simple beat, simple rhyme scheme, strong message. Vans don t
cost G s, real niggaz wear these – Vans, says a member of The Pack in the music video aptly titled
Vans. You may be asking yourself, So, what s the big deal? The big, highly lucrative deal is the
marriage between big name corporations and their partnership with hip hop. It s nothing new: Run
DMC had My adiddas , LL Cool J wore Kangol hats, and even Jay Z incorporated drinking Cristal
into his lyrics for a long period of time. With that being said, the new hip hop generation of today
faces many adversities from years and years of subliminal marketing within their own sub culture. The

This same idea can be applied to the rap artists who get paid by the sponsors that endorse them. These
artists are making millions off these companies who are mainly there to use the artist s image as a way
to connect their product with his or her fan base. The sad thing is, when an artist talks about Glocks or
Smith and Wessons like he is endorsing the product, confused kids buy into it. When I got a little bit
older, a littler bit smarter, and a little bit wiser, I started to question myself and my identity, as well as
Hip Hop and the identity portrayed within the mainstream media. It seemed as though everything had
to have a hardcore exterior. To be understanding, sensitive, or romantic seemed to be weak, while
credibility was earned by talking about guns, drugs, pimping women, and dirty money. In an article
regarding two underground DVDs called Straight Outta Hunters Point and Hood 2 Hood, Darren
Keast put this idea best, The storytellers are driven by the same motivation – proving that their block
is the hardest, and that they are the hardest on the block. This is precisely what is portrayed in most
mainstream rap – a market flood of bragging and boasting about doing illegal or despicable activities.

Speech About Blizzard
BOOOOOOOP! Hi, welcome to Dairy Queen, how can I help you?, I said. Yes, can I please get a
medium peanut butter cookie dough smash blizzard made with chocolate ice cream please, that s all,
comes the customer overly enthusiastic response. Okay, that will be $4.25, Thank you and please pull
around. I reply ever so kindly. That s how the nightmare of making the worst blizzard known to man
begins. To start making this monstrosity of a blizzard, you need your medium blizzard cup,
approximately sixteen ounces. Now, since it s chocolate soft serve we need, you must walk all the way
from the drive thru to the front line, where we have the only machine that dispenses our chocolate soft
serve. Once you made the treacherous two yard jaunt to the machine, just proceed to pull the lever of
the desired soft serve flavor and fill your cup up half ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After your cup is half full, form one ball half in half out of the cup and finish off with the signature
curl using the 9 1 7 motion or as I like to say casual flick of the wrist. Normally this is how you should
fill your blizzard cup, but considering you re using chocolate soft serve, you ll just end up with a large
blob of mush, topped with a cringe worthy spike in place of the curl. At this moment in time, you must
equip your cup with a collar in order to add the required ingredients. What you will need to add is one
pump of peanut butter sauce, three black spoons of chocolate chunks, three clear spoons of cookie
dough, and to top it off three white spoons of peanut butter cookie pieces. Now that you ve finished
applying the ingredients, you should have everything on the verge of spilling over the collar, because
there is physically just too much packed into this single blizzard. Like

Religion In Public Schools
A highly controversial issue that is commonly discussed is whether or not religion should be taught in
public schools. In a society as diverse as our own, a course where students learn about the worlds
various belief systems is essential to a well rounded education. Some think religion shouldn t be
taught in the educational environments because it will lead to disagreements or arguments ,the topic
could easily offend someone or others simply don t like the thought of religious views being forced
upon their children. Although these reasons seem valid, Learning about religion in school is extremely
beneficial for our diverse student body because it is critical to develop global competence skills,

People will argue that bullying and religiously motivated hate crimes are still an ongoing issue around
the world and teaching about religion will only encourage these acts of hate, Although it is true these
acts of hate are still a constant issue the teaching of the various belief systems in public school would
be a step in the right direction of gradually eliminating these issues. There are facts that confirm that
the teaching of many worldly religions can improve our character, knowledge and society. If all these
positive outcomes are from teaching about worldly religion in school, Why aren t we doing

Atheism Argument
Theism is the belief of the existence of god as the creator of the world. Atheism, on the flip side,
disagree with the argument of believing in a god as in their view there aren t enough evidence that
God actually exist. While scientists disagree with the existence of God, however, they have not been
able to disproved that god does not exist. In a sense, it s worth pointing out that both argument

that theism utilized faith to explain everything around them which in their view are more than enough
indication in explaining the existence of god. While this logic may be insufficient from atheism point
of view; however, it is worth noting that the

The Success Of The Buffalo Bills Essay
Everyone has a specific skill set that they are good at. Some people are good with numbers, others
have a gift for writing. The same is true in sports. The Buffalo Bills are very good at losing and
disappointing their fans, while the Patriots are fantastic at bending the rules and winning Super Bowls.
In baseball, each team is built around a specific group of players in order to create the best possible
chance to win the World Series. Some of the greatest players have created seemingly unbreakable
statistics. Joe DiMaggio had a hit in fifty six consecutive games. Barry Bonds hit seven hundred and
sixty two home runs over his twenty two year career. Statistics like these only come about once in a
generation. Teams are comprised of various talent. Some are like Miguel Cabrera. Cabrera always has
a batting average over .300 with at least 25 home runs. These types of players are considered great
hitters. Other s, like Stephan Drew, get a hit less than 20% of the time they have an at bat. Players
similar to Drew s skill set have a job because they are very good at defense and their value on defense
out ways their value on offense to their specific team. Baseball is sport rich with statistics. Almost
anything one can come up with, has a statistic. In the last ten years alone, top executives, such as Billy
Bean, have constructed teams based on advanced statistics and have been fairly successful, like the
2002 Oakland Athletics. Other teams, like the Houston Astros,

Sour Patch Kids
Music is an aspect of every culture that is used to connect its people and bring the group together.
Essentially, every culture has their own unique genre of music. The question of what is good music, is
an intriguing one because the answer to this question varies from culture to culture. Even within a
culture, the musical preferences change based on the individual. For this What is good music project, I
chose the song Sour Patch Kids, by Bryce Vine, because this song exemplifies a few things that I look
for when determining good music.
I first found this song a couple of summers ago, when my friend Joey showed it to me. Instantly, I
became a fan of this song and a fan of Bryce Vine s music. I chose to use this song instead of his other
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To start off, I really enjoy the beat that Bryce uses on this track. This song features an upbeat rhythm,
and the lyrics compliment the beat. The entire song is supposed to deliver a nostalgic feel to the
listener. Throughout the song, He incorporates popular themes from his childhood into the lyrics, and
the music video features these themes throughout. For me, I think the nostalgic theme works well with
this song. It provides a happy, carefree feeling to the listener. When I listen to this song, it personally
brings back feeling and memories from the summer I was shown it. Because of this, I believe the
nostalgic theme of the song is a good fit. Another reason this is good music is because of the lyrics.
These lyrics break away from the typical stereotype that is expected from rap/hip hop music. It seems
that recently, few popular songs have lyrics with meaning. Most feature lyrics that will appeal to the
masses to sell the most records. This is where Bryce Vine differentiates himself from these artists. His
lyrics share stories and experiences from his life, and are very personalized for the listener. I recently
went to one of his concerts he had in East Lansing, and when he performed Sour Patch Kids, the entire
crowd was singing along, and was brought together. This experience exemplifies what Bryce Vine s
music is all about; connecting people and delivering quality

Government Surveillance
Government Surveillance
Imagine a world where your every move was being monitored. A dark world where it is no secret who
you are, where you have been and who you associate with; now include who you love, who you pray
to and what you just ate for dinner. The word privacy doesn t exist in such world and it is such world
that we are heading to. Big Brother is watching you! This quote by George Orwell couldn t have been
truer. Every aspect of our lives is being sorted through as Big Data this very moment. Government
surveillance has prevailed by the name of security. But, is government surveillance of internet digital

Government surveillance in the past was not a big threat due to the limitations on technology;
however, in the current day, it has become an immense power for the government. Taylor, author of a
book on Electronic Surveillance supports, A generation ago, when records were tucked away on paper
in manila folders, there was some assurance that such information wouldn t be spread everywhere.
Now, however, our life stories are available at the push of a button (Taylor 111). With more and more
Americans logging into social media cites and using text messaging devices, the more providers of
metadata the government has. In her journal The Virtuous Spy: Privacy as an Ethical Limit , Anita L.
Allen, an expert on privacy law, writes, Contemporary technologies of data collection make secret,
privacy invading surveillance easy and nearly irresistible. For every technology of confidential
personal communication...there are one or more counter technologies of eavesdropping (Allen 1).
Being in the middle of the Digital Age, we have to be much more careful of the kinds of information
we put in our digital devices.
Some Americans may argue that the government surveillance programs target only foreigners, that we,
as Americans, are exempted from this type of scrutiny. They are even reassured by President Barrack
Obama in an interview on Charlie Rose: If you are

Factors of the Increasing Trend to Consume Organic Foods
There is a growing relationship between Organic Food marketers and their consumer s base. Over the
years increased food awareness has made an impact on the way consumers are choosing their food.
Awareness relating to the use of genetically modified food sources has left some consumers concerned
for their health, and they see eating organically as a positive substitute. Researchers are investigating
what other factors and marketing techniques are affecting consumer s trends for organic food. Through
the use of social media outlets some organic famer companies are starting to build an engaging
relationship with their cliental. Organic food is making its presences known in pop culture and may be
changing the tide against dirty foods.
In order for advertising to be effective for the organic food market the advertiser first must have an
understanding of the consumer needs. In today s society there is more information available for
consumers, and this is shaping their understanding of the products they are buying. According to the
Journal of Advertising this concept seems even more prevalent because of the green market for green
products and, in particular, organic food products, where exponential growth has recently been
observed. (Ioannis, Carlson, Muehling, 2014). This would account for United States sale growth of
over 400 million dollars annually with the help of over 300 certified organic products annually.
Organic marketers do not see this trend slowing down anytime

not what happen to John Wick. He prevailed in avenging his last gift from his dead wife, a dog named

The Perspective On Demography And Its Effects On The...
Every aspect on demography comes into play when combined into unison from the perspective of a
person s environment. Factors such as age, ethnicity, gender and class are highly important in shaping
a person s environment, where a different combination is met with a distinct response, thus placing
great emphasis on the understanding of intersectionality through the lens of the sociological

Ender s Game Comparison Essay
This is a comparative review of the book and the movie ender s game. In this review I will compare

Imagine that an alien species called the buggers or (formic) has attacked earth twice in the last 50
years and almost wiped out the human species. The world government needs to prepare a general to be
ready for the next invasion. Ender s game is about a boy named ender who goes to a space station
military school and learns how to be a commander. He becomes the best commander in his school and
moves to this asteroid called eros. There he plays a simulation where he learns how to kill the buggers
(or formics) and eventually destroys the whole planet. The teachers tell him that the simulations were
real and he had killed the whole planet and wiped them out completely. He feels guilty and flies to the
planet and to colonize it with his sister and others. He finds a bugger (or formic) cocoon. There he
then goes to the end of the galaxy trying to find a planet for the buggers (or formic) to live again. ...

The Glass Ceiling And Gender Gap Between Women And Men
Abstract
The business case for gender diversity in senior and executive positions is compelling. Studies show
that companies that have the best records for promoting women outstrip their competition on every
measure of profitability. Yet women disproportionately are failing to attain high level positions.
Reviewing current data on women in the workplace, findings of studies on the relationship between
gender diversity in senior management and company performance, and the literature on gender
behavioral differences and the workplace, this article explores the possible reasons for the persistent
wage and gender gap between women and men in senior leadership positions and discusses possible
remedies (Meyerson, D.E. Fletcher, 2000)
Quote: It s an uphill struggle, to be judged both a good woman and a good leader.

Literature Review
The Glass Ceiling
The glass ceiling was first introduced in the 1980 s. It is a symbol for the past and present barriers that
block women and minorities from progressing up the corporate ladder to management and leadership
positions. The glass ceiling represents a metaphorical barrier preventing women from rising to the
highest organizational levels (Daily Dalton, 1999, p. 4). In recent years there has been remarkable
progress made by women. Many women now hold higher seats on boards, run companies and have
become prominent leaders. However; the truth is women at high levels of leadership is still sporadic.

Pros And Cons Of Ad Hoc Routing Protocols
WIRELESS AD HOC ROUTING PROTOCOLS
Raghav Thirani , Monica Chandil
ABSTRACT: An ad hoc network is a collection of nodes which are dynamically located in such a
manner that their inter connections might change on continual basis. A routing protocol is required, to
facilitate communication inside the network by discovering routes between the nodes. This research
paper classifies various protocols and provides an overview about eight different protocols under
varied categories.
1. INTRODUCTON:
Since their emergence, wireless networks have become increasingly popular. There are currently two
kinds of wireless networks in use, namely WLAN s and Ad Hoc. WLAN s are called infrastructure
networks as they have fixed and wired gateways, whereas Ad hoc are called infrastructure less
networks as they don t have any fixed routers, all nodes in this are capable of movement and can be

It starts by throwing light on Table Driven or Proactive routing protocols, then moving forward to On
demand or Reactive routing protocols. It further discusses about Hybrid routing protocols which are a
mixture of the previous two. We end the discussion on these routing protocols by introducing the
Hierarchical routing protocols.
2. TABLE DRIVEN PROTOCOLS
Table driven routing protocols are also called as proactive routing protocols. They try to maintain the
consistent, up to date routing information from each node to every other node in the network[1].
Nodes respond to network topology changes by propagating route updates throughout the network.[1]
in this paper we discuss three proactive routng protocols namely: Optimised Link State Routing
protocol(OLSR) , Destination Sequenced Distance Vector Routing(DSDV) and Wireless routing
protocol (WRP).
2.1 DSDV:
In this routing protocol, every node maintains a routing table which has got entries of all the possible
destination nodes and the number of hops to each of

Once Upon A Time In The West Essay
The opening sequence of Spaghetti Western film, Once Upon a Time in the West (Sergio Leone,
1968), showcases how director, Sergio Leone, utilises the formal properties of the medium of cinema
to produce meaning for the audience and foreshadow later events and themes which arise throughout
the development of the plot. The film opens with a single scene of a mysterious, harmonica playing
gunman (Charles Bronson), embroiled in a showdown with three men that have been drafted to kill
him (Jack Elam, Woody Strode, Al Mulock). The sequence culminates with the gunman binding up his
wounded arm and collecting his belongings, abandoning the other three men dead by a railway line.
This essay will endeavour to explore how each creative and technical element of the production
creates a sense of ambiguity and tension to the scene, grasping the audience s engagement with the
film. To do this, the mise en scène, cinematography, editing, sound and performance of the text will
each be subject to detailed analysis.

The length of each shot is long, moments of subtle action drawn out into longer cuts to heighten the

and cuts to portray this sequence, Leone favours a single mid shot that lasts twenty seven seconds.
This protracted sequence builds the sense of enigma surrounding the Harmonica who is this man and
what will he do next? The length of the shot also hints at the characterisation of the gunman to the
audience; the leisurely pace at which he performs his duties depicting him as someone who is not
afraid of danger or violence, traits which are seen again and again throughout the progression of the

After receiving the news about the murder, Jimmy explodes with emotions. I remember, I was more
afraid of my little daughter than I ever was of being in prison (Dennis 34). This quote shows the
fatherly love Jimmy had for Katie. It compared the strength Jimmy had through the rough times in jail
and how afraid he was of losing Katie. Ultimately, Jimmy follows the wrong path. Jimmy not only
fails to find his daughter s murderer, but he also kills Dave along too. By looking though a
psychoanalytic lens, one can interpret Jimmy s fatherly instincts which are to try to unearth his
daughter s murderer no matter the cost.
Not only can one psychoanalytically observe the father from Mystic River, Jimmy Markum, but can
also psychoanalytically compare one to the father from The Lovely Bones, Jack Salmon. Jack Salmon
is the frustrated heroic father of the murdered Susie Salmon. Jack is the one who knows the truth of
his daughter s murder, but can t prove it. Just as Jack quotes, If you start something, you finish it. You
don t stop until you get it right. If you don t get it right, you start over again and you keep going as
long as you can (Sebold 12). This quote demonstrates Jack s perseverance towards catching Susie s
murderer. Regardless of the number of attempts to obtain justice for Susie, Jack never ends up
victorious. Just like Jimmy Markum from Mystic River, Jack and Jimmy both display determination

Essay On Patriotism
Service Shows More than Patriotism The healthcare reform debate has been on the minds of many
Americans in recent years. Democrats have worked to put Obamacare in place in 2009 and want to fix
issues using the existing platform. Many Republicans are currently working to repeal and replace
Obamacare with Trumpcare. The healthcare debate has come to a standstill in Congress as deep party
lines persist. In August 2017, following the fights over the universal healthcare debate, TCA Regional
News reported that Democrat Amy McGrath is running for Congress in the state of Kentucky against
Republican Andy Barr in 2018 (Yeager). McGrath felt led to run due to Barr s support of repealing the
Affordable Care Act and due to the lessons she learned at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is another image used to demonstrate the American army s protection and promote patriotism.
The value of patriotism is seen throughout military and American flag images in the advertisement.
The value of nontraditional gender roles is subtly seen through the auditory and visual illustrations in
the advertisement. Amy McGrath explains that in a previous experience of hers, her local
Congressman wrote to her that he believed that women should not be allowed to serve in combat as
the image of the letter appears on screen with the parts mentioned highlighted. McGrath explains that
she persisted and joined the Naval Academy anyway. This appeals to nontraditional gender roles
because it persuades the viewers that McGrath is different because she is a woman who broke the
mold in a male dominated area. McGrath is also seen with having short hair and wearing a dark
bomber jacket, white button up, and loose pants. McGrath is noticeably not wearing much make up
and has simple earrings and a wedding band. By wearing non feminine clothes, McGrath appeals to
value of nontraditional gender roles. McGrath is shown to walking with her husband and young
children down a grassy hill. McGrath is seen in a bright pink shirt and khaki dress pants while holding
her husband s hand. Her husband is wearing a blue button up shirt and dark dress pants while holding
their toddler. Twin preschooler boys, dressed in the same blue polo and khaki shorts, run and play in
front of their parents.

The Media s Portrayal Of Asian Americans
Throughout history, the media has been known to be influential towards how individuals of society
perceive the world and their environment. This influence can lead to people creating prejudices
towards those who are highlighted by the media. It also has the ability to change the attitude of one
person towards another class of people and stereotype them in positive, but mostly negative ways. One
population that has played victim to the repercussions of the mass media is Asian Americans, who
have been oppressed and deemed a minority by Americans. The media s portrayal of Asian Americans
has had detrimental effects on one s opportunities, performance, and their perception of the world. The
mass media consists of any means of communication that has the ability to reach a large amount of
people. The term media can refer to movies, television, the newspaper, etc. It is because of it s ability
to out reach to a mass quantity of people that it is able to reinforce and teach societal values. At a
young age, socialization occurs in that it involves the learning of the values and the norms of society
and adopting them into their own personal values (Perse, 2001.) Children often have little life
experience so they learn and imitate their environment whether that be the characters on television or
societal institutions like their families or teachers at school. Adolescents are more susceptible to
socialization in that they are at a period in which they are trying to find

Laundry Detergents As A Cleansing Agent
Introduction
Laundry detergents are a cleansing agent that is widely used in the industry to clean laundry. The term
detergent refers to mixtures of chemical compounds including Alkyl Sulphonates, which are similar to
soap but less affected by hard water (Farlex, 2014). Like soap, detergent increases the ability of water
to penetrate fabric and break down greases and dirt, however they are derived from organic acids
rather than fatty acids (Mifflin, 2005). A detergent is an ion or molecule that contains both polar and
nonpolar components. The polar component allows the detergent to dissolve in the water, whereas the
nonpolar component solubilizes greasy materials that are the usual target of the cleaning process.
Their molecules then surround the particles of grease and dirt, allowing them to be carried away thus
leaving your clothes clean. This EEI explores the performance of two different laundry powders (Fab
and Woolworths select Home brand) in different types of water; ranging from soft to hard. These
detergents were compared and analysed in different types of water from varying locations to
determine whether water hardness has an effect on the cleaning ability of detergents, and whether
products should be specifically formulated depending on the type of water.

that each play important roles in the laundry process depending on the cleaning tasks

Ancient Greek Vase Analysis
Perhaps one of the most well known staples of ancient Greek art is the vase constructed from clay and
decorated with black glaze to depict culturally relevant scenes, stories, and events, ancient Greek
pottery is instrumental to our modern understanding of ancient Greek society. Thanks to the sturdiness
of the fired terra cotta from which these pieces are made, archaeologists have been able to uncover a
plethora of these vases and vessels and analyze them to gather otherwise unknowable information
about the time in which they were made. The vases are most commonly categorized by shape and by
the era in which they were made several different artistic styles and movements are documented via
the decorations and art on these vases. Some of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the front, typical of all Panathenaic amphorae, is an image of Athena holding a spear, featuring a
limited but still visually striking use of color. Dark red and white adorn her apparel, helmet, and
shield. Her skin is also colored with a whiteish tone this detail is perhaps a tradition left over from the
much earlier Minoan civilization, whose art made the visual distinction of female from male with
lighter skin tones. Incised lines are used to depict intricate decorations on her tunic. In this panel,
Athena is flanked on either side by Doric columns, an inscription running up the side of one, and
roosters atop both. The significance of the roosters remains unknown, but some have theorized that the
presence of the birds could have something to do with the Greek word for rooster, alektruon, which
means defender, while others suggest that they are symbolic of Zeus, Athena s father. The neck and
the foot of the vase are decorated on both sides. The back of the vase displays a scene from a stadion
footrace, the event for which this prize would have been awarded. All 5 athletes in the panel assume
the heroically nude state that was more than common in Greek society, and detailed musculature is
delineated with the use of incised lines. As with Athena on the other side, Minoan influence is evident
in the scene, evidenced by the pinched waists if the runners. Beyond the focal points of both scenes,
no details are used to indicate their surrounding landscape, in a very similar fashion to the Berlin
painter s style. Also like the Berlin painter, there is evidence of perspective, as the athlete s legs and
arms overlap each other to provide a sense of relative space, however, this detail disappears on the
other side of the vase, as Athena s spear runs behind her head, contrary to the position it is suggested
to take by the way she

What Are The Consequences Of The Crusades
Before the Crusades began, in the 11th century, Western Europe had emerged with great power, while
Mediterranean civilizations were being invaded by Seljuk Turks. After years of war, the general
Alexius Comnenus took the throne of Byzantine in 1081 and consolidated control over the remaining
empire as known as Alexius I ( Crusades. ). By 1905, Alexius sent word to Pope Urban II asking for
troops from the West to help face the Turkish threat. Alexius request came at a time when the relations
between Christians from the east and west were improving. By November 1905, the pope had called
on Western Christians to take up arms so they could aid the Byzantines and recapture the Holy Land
from Muslim control ( Crusades ). The response was enormous, people from levels of the military, as
well as ordinary citizens, joined the pilgrimage to take back the Holy Land. Now that the Byzantines

Jerusalem was now weakly protected and the recruits were lacking in number. This caused internal
turmoil for the Crusaders and allowed for Saladin, the ruler of Cairo in 1169, to form a campaign

destroyed them at the battle of Hattin and taking the Holy Land as his own. These defeats over the
years and terrible outcomes is what brought on the Third Crusade. This round of fighting was led by
three rulers, Emperor Fredrick Barbarossa, King Phillip II of France, and King Richard I of England
also known as Richard the Lionheart. The only true battle held in this crusade was the Battle of Arsuf
where Richard s men defeated the people of Saladin and reestablished Christian control. A year later,
September 1192, Richard and Saladin signed a treaty where Muslims would stay in control over
Jerusalem but unarmed Christians could enter the city.

Text dependent speaker recognition follows the technique of detecting speakers based on the text. i.e
all the speakers will be saying the same thing and the goal
2
is to distinguish the speakers. Text dependent speaker recognition was chosen because a lot of the
access based security systems use speech as a way of blocking unwanted individuals. The main goal
was to increase the accuracy of the text dependent speaker recognition performance. Now a days there
is a lot of talk going about creating hardware modules which can take care of recognition of speech or
face or other patterns as iris recognition and the list goes on. The primary reason behind this is the fact
that we all want to automate things like speech recognition, which reduces manpower in many areas
and also because of the vastness of data available these days, it is humanely impossible to recognize
patterns within these data‟s. Speech is more of a behavioral part of the human being as it deals with
the vocal tract of a human being. The reason behind going for algorithms like MFCC ,GMM is the
fact that they are very popular and

What Are The Three Main Types Of Conflicts
Conflict forms
According to Kurtzberg Mueller (2005), there are three main types of conflicts. The first type of
conflict they describe is process related conflict that is based on the work procedures, how well work
performance is and the obligations, roles, and responsibilities of teams. The second form of conflict is
relationship based conflict in which relationships and interaction play a major part between team
members and individuals. Finally, the third type of conflict is task related conflict where differences
about the work itself causes a misunderstanding. Kurtzberg Mueller (2005), states that there is a linear
correlation between team performance and task related conflicts and points out that sometimes task
related conflicts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most people don t realize that for every action there is a reaction and there was some type of trigger
that made this person act out in a certain way. Runde and Flanagan (2007) argues that understanding
one s own behavior and trying to reflect on others are key factors when trying to prevent the outbreak
of conflicts . Know how to control your own behavior and how to respond to others can eliminate
escalation between individuals. A conflict competent leader is aware about his/hers hot buttons and in
which situations they are triggered, therefore they are more prepared for situations that are
emotionally charged (Runde and Flanagan, 2007). Conflict Resolution
Even though conflict is prone to happen is organizations, there are always ways to solve these
problems and come up with some type of resolution. Rahim, Magner, Shapiro, (2000) argues justice is
one of the most important concerns for employee conflict resolution in an organization . Justice in an
organizations brings forth positive attitudes and lets employees know that management is displaying
fairness all around and have good conflict management skills. If employees feel that they are being
treated fairly and managers stay unbiased, they will be more obligated to compromise and be more
cooperative in situations. Rahim et al. (2000) divides justice into three

People Corrupt Power In George Orwell s Animal Farm And...
William Gaddis once said Power doesn t corrupt people, People corrupt power In Animal Farm and
Mouseland both of the animals who have the power take over and create corrupt and unequal
societies. This causes the societies to fall under the rules of greedy and selfish leaders. The authors of
Animal Farm and Mouseland use the narrative techniques of characterization and conflict to illustrate
messages about how power can destroy societies and take away the equality in the society.
First, in Animal Farm and Mouseland the authors use characterization to show how power can destroy
societies and can take away the equality that is in the society. For example, in Animal Farm, George
Orwell uses the pigs as a way to show the different levels of importance. It shows how the other
animals are always below the pigs. On pages 35 and 36 it states You do not imagine, I hope, that we
pigs are doing this in a spirit of selfishness and privilege? Many of us actually dislike milk and apples.
I dislike them myself. Our sole object in taking these things is to preserve our health. Milk and apples
(this had been proven by science, comrades) contain substances absolutely necessary to the well being
of a pig. We pigs are brainworkers. Orwell uses the words absolutely necessary to the well being of a
pig making it seem the most important to the pigs and no other animals. This means that the pigs
started to take the things they wanted and decided they were the ones who had all of the power. This
shows that the power they created could give them more equal rights than the others. In a similar ways
Tommy Douglas uses the cats to show how the other animals are below them and the cats are the ones
who have power. In paragraph 3 of Mouseland it states A government made up of big, fat, black cats.
Douglas states fat, black, cats. characterizing the cats are lazy and useless. This means that in
Mouseland there was a society run by animals who didn t do what they needed and they were lazy.
This shows that just because of the way the cats are characterized they aren t good leaders and they
have the power. This shows that in Animal Farm and Mouseland the people in power were
characterized as greedy and selfish, but came off to the

storytelling, the artist tends to rely on a specific pattern of story development. This pattern, as we have
seen in the numerous literary examples that we have read so far, naturally conforms to a rigid
framework one that we, as humans, repeatedly desire. This framework was described by Dan Harmon
as the story circle , and mirrors the cyclical nature of our conscious perceptive capabilities, as well as
our understanding of the universe surrounding us. The story circle identifies (from the perspective of
the character or characters we primarily identify with) a submersion and re emergence in some

In the play A Long Day s Journey Into Night, the crossing of the threshold takes place as the family
strives to be whole. The pursuit of harmony captivates and empowers each member of the Tyrone
family, and the hope of true happiness drives them. Whether through the use of forced optimism,
blissful ignorance, or denial, the words and actions of the family are intended to lift the fog of a
broken past and enter into a new era of trust, support, and overall positivity. Evidence of a broken,
almost irredeemable past is made readily available to the reader, and one gets the sense that despite all
reason to doubt the intentions of the other, each of the Tyrones has completely crossed into an
attempted realm of newfound hope. As their past continually rears its powerful and conspicuous head,
a philosophical battle between existentialism and nihilism continually fuels the crossing. James bashes

It was also this destruction and death that caused nations to later agree to the prohibition of chemical
weapons and warfare. Germany used chemicals as a weapon usually in the form of poisonous gas as it
was a more technologically advanced weapon then their enemies had. When the Germans first used
this weapon it was met with little resistance, therefore, proving that with more advanced weapons,
soldiers could accomplish their missions and goals both more accurately and faster or simply making
their mission more attainable. While using this weapon, the Germans were not stopped, simply as
there was no one to stop them from taking the trenches as their enemies lay dead on the ground in
what resembles a gruesome death. During the Second Battle of Ypres, the Germans used chemical
weapons for the first time and after a half hour; everything was dead with only the Germans to claim
the French trench. This weapon made it possible for the Germans to capture trenches and accomplish
their missions. During the war, the reactions to chemical warfare were increasingly negative from both
soldiers and civilians. The negative reactions and responses to chemical weapons are reasonable and
understandable. Soldiers held negative views on chemical warfare as they had to personally deal with
the attacks, while the civilians and citizens at home also had difficulty responding to chemical warfare
with anything but a negative response. The citizens at home had

dancer from a child to a grown woman. The majority of the novel takes place during World War One
and follows Bronia as she must learn to support her family and survive the war. Stachniak takes
Bronia s real life experiences and turns them into a wonderful work of fiction, blending fact with
fiction effectively. To begin, the author creates compelling family dynamics. To add on, the characters

This book is unique because it is a detailed biography about the events in Bronia s life. The readers
learn that Bronia and her brother Valsav are very different from others in the dance industry because
they are trying to change the face of ballet by modernizing it; Modern ballet should break boundaries,
chart new paths, achieve the unity of music and movements. Modern ballet should be a feast for the
eyes (Stachniak 99). Bronia has quite an interesting life outside of her professional career. It is
interesting to see how she starts as a dancer and the things she must overcome throughout her life. For
instance, once Bronia marries Sasha, another dancer, they have two kids, Irina and Levushka; and she
must learn on how her career choices will affect her entire family. Throughout the novel Bronia
becomes more courageous especially once she has to deal with several of Sasha s affairs. She
eventually leaves him after one of his mistresses becomes pregnant; this is quite like the situation her
parents were in at the beginning of the novel. To conclude, The Chosen Maiden is a good book

First, the aggressor in this situation is only 15 years old. At 15 years old, the aggressor felt it both
necessary and acceptable to violently attack another player. Moreover, the 15 year old victim
subjected to the attack was incredibly damaged emotionally from the event. Secondly, the verbiage
used is so violent which highlights the significance of racism in minor hockey. The nature of the sport
evokes intense and sporadic emotions which encourages the oppressor to express their truest
emotions. As a result, one can conclude that racism is deeply rooted within that player s beliefs, and
which is not exclusive to this incident.
The next example of racism in minor hockey involves parent s involvement in the problem. Parents

This is a particularly disturbing incident which speaks volumes to the root of the problem. It is
explained that parents have a very passionate belief and concern attached to preserving the segregation
of the sport. Even the diversity of referees is a sensitive area to the existing culture. Furthermore, this
incident speaks volumes to the acceptance and magnitude of racist behaviour demonstrated even by
parents. In other words, parents are so outraged by the inclusion of visible minorities in the game that

Massachusetts. As Dr. Hobart works in the Worcester public health sector as both a practicing
physician and an administrator, her dual roles create a unique position as an agent of direct community
support and an advocate for changes to the public medical system. Dr. Hobart is a medically focused
community organizer and her work is most easily tied to the Women Centered model of community

SCID Essay
Genetic testing has found various genes in which a mutation can occur to cause SCID. These genes
include the JAK3, IL7R, ADA, RAG1, RAG2, DCLRE1C, LIG4, and IL2RG genes. (Lebet et al.
2008) The cytogenic locations of these genes in the order that they are presented above are as follows:
19p13.11 (NIH Genetics Home Reference, 2017e), 5p13.2 (NIH Genetics Home Reference, 2017d),

The proper functioning of the IL2RG gene is vital for the continuous development of immune cells,
specifically the T cells and B cells mentioned above. (Cavazzana et al. 2016)
The IL 2R receptor triggers the maturation, activation, and homeostasis of the T cells. The
development, differentiation, and survival of B cells is activated by the IL 4R receptor via the IRS2,
PI3K, and STAT6 signaling cascade. The IL 7R receptor controls the differentiation between the T
cells and the B cells. The activation of natural killer (NK) cells, direction of T cell response, and
guidance of B cells comes from the IL 15R receptor. Finally, the IL 21R receptor amplifies the T cell
and B cell response to antigens present in the body. (Mou et al. 2017) One or a multiple of these
processes could be affected by a mutation causing X linked SCID. As many as fifteen percent of cases
involve defects of the IL 7R receptor. (Lebet et al. 2008)
Multiple types of mutations can occur within the IL2RG gene. These include point mutations,
deletions and insertions, and splice mutations. The deletions and insertions are seen on both a
microscopic scale (one exon) or a macroscopic scale (four or more exons.) Five major locations for
point mutations include cDNA 684T, cDNA 690T, cDNA 691T, cDNA 868A, and cDNA 879T, all of

Society s Attitude Towards The Drinking Age
Society s attitude towards the drinking age has been a major controversy in the United States. The
attitudes regarding the drinking age have been based off statistics and society s varying opinion.
Alcohol is a toxic depressant that has a damaging effect on the human body. As a result, to prevent
excessive alcoholic consumption, the ratification of the 18th amendment took place from 1919 to
1939. This established the Prohibition Act, which banned the transportation, manufacturing and selling
of an alcoholic beverage. However, illegal production of alcohol continued to take place in secret.
Gradually prohibition laws became difficult to enforce. As a result, the Prohibition Act was repealed in
1933. In 1984, congress mandated a law which would raise the drinking age from 18 to 21 through the
National Minimum Drinking Age. Reasoning for mandating an older drinking age, was to enhance
public safety and promote good health. In 1988, all 50 states enforced the drinking age to 21. The
concern for the consumption of alcohol have targeted teenagers and young adults Society proposes at
the age of eighteen an individual is mature and responsible to make decisions without the consent of a
parent or guardian. In the United States an eighteen year old is considered a legal adult. By law you
are able to fight for your country, vote, and buy cigarettes. Some impose, giving a newly young adult
the privilege to consume alcohol would enhance their responsibility as an adult. Mary Cary from

The Contrasting Views of Roger Williams and John Winthrop
The Contrasting Views of Roger Williams and John Winthrop People immigrated to America for many
reasons, most people shared in the same ideas of going to the New World to start new lives away from
England. Roger Williams and John Winthrop both joined in the Puritan dissent to New England, but
while they were living in Boston, Massachusetts they did not agree on several matters. These two men
had contrasting views when it came to Christianity, separating from the Church of England and
religious liberty. First, Roger Williams does not believe that Christianity was the only religion of God.
He believes that God created human beings and endowed them with the inborn right to make choices
in the matters of faith. While staying with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He and his fellow Puritans did not break from the Church because they sought to reform it in the New
World. When Winthrop heard all the commotion Williams was making with his protesting he referred
to it as infection that would easily spread to the people and churches. Lastly, Roger Williams is a
strong supporter of religious liberty. Religious liberty is another example on how Williams believed
the people should be able to practice their own religion, not have it decided by the government. He
protests that civil authority should be limited to civil matters and that magistrates had no jurisdiction
over the soul (174). Meaning that the government does not have the right to enforce religious duties
on people, to let them believe on their own. Williams put it as wanting to build a wall of separation
between state and church in order to keep the holy and pure religion of Jesus Christ from
contamination by the slightest taint of earthly support (Miller 174). This was the main argument of
Williams that caused him to become unwelcome in both Plymouth and Boston. John Winthrop did not
oppose to dissent just that there needed to be limits set. He worried that if dissent was not kept within
bounds, it would undermine the community and that integrity of the community demanded religious
conformity. Winthrop believes challenges to religious authority could undermine the political

Fall Of Communism In Eastern Europe
Karl Marx came up with the idea of communism. Communism is a political system in which everyone
is equal, it is characterised by the absence of social class and money, and the state. The main reason
for the fall of communism (1989) in Eastern Europe would be due to its wide ethnicity, and due to the
people with in the countries not accepting one another. Eastern Europe is made of 21 countries, each
having a different culture. Some of these countries are Bosnia and Herzegovina, Russia, Poland,
Slovakia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Albania, Kosovo, Ukraine and Serbia. Most of these countries
have a different language and religion. Bosnia is located in South Eastern Europe, and classified as an
Islamic nation with having its own language (Bosnian). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If one was to be a communist they would not be able to practice religion. Communism is against
religion and its ways Religion and communism are incompatible, both theoretically and practically.
Having Eastern Europe with that many religious groups made it impossible for them to achieve
communism. There was once an somewhat of well established communist state in Eastern Europe, it
was not fully communistic due to most people seeing it as transitioning to a socialist party. Yugoslavia
was a communist state, it was around from 1945 1980. While Yugoslavia existed most of its firms
were co operatively operated. The problem with Yugoslavia is that it lasted while Tito (Communist
leader) lasted, once Tito died so did Yugoslavia. Tito was sought as a great leader one of the last great
WWII leaders. It seems as he was only able to keep everything in place due to his great ties with the
west (United States of America), and the major support and love from the civilians of Yugoslavia. Tito
is seen as a great leader but he neglected to create strong ties with in the united countries. He did not
encourage students to study outside their republics. This had created a week bond between the
countries. Once he died it was obvious that there was going to be a split, Tito might of have held the
countries together but did not bring the people of different ethnicities together. If Yugoslavia was not
created because of the after math of WWII, but instead created due to people wanting to create a better
nation in which communism is a reality everything would be different. When talking about the
unification of Yugoslavia mostly

Cheering Research Paper
From Ballet and Hip Hop Jazz to Cheerleading, Volleyball or Fashion, my life has been a constant
change of hobbies throughout the years. Starting at age three dancing has been a passion of mine that I
have enjoyed in my life. As I had planned in the past, becoming a ballerina would become my future
job when I became older but a new hobby camp into place; cheerleading. I have always enjoyed
cheering on my favorite team while sitting in the bleachers, but I wanted to take my excitement else

Cardboard And Cups Experiment Essay
Have you ever wanted to stand on something that is very very light without crushing it? Something
you can t stand because it is impossible. Here s an idea though how about taking cardboard and cups?
Now, what can you do with these items? I know. How about you try to do the paper cup walk. It
would be amazing if you could stand on dixie cups and just two pieces of cardboard with all your
weight. The goal to do with this project is to not crush one dixie cup. Also you should try cutting out
the bottom of the cups and see if you can stand on them without crushing one cup. Everyone does this
experiment different that is why it is fun. Pressure is a physical force exerted on or against an object

Tension is the state of being stretched tight. For example if you have a piece of paper and you try to
stretch it won t this is called tension. If you cut out the bottom of a cup the tension is gone. If you try
to replace the bottom of the paper cups with something else for example, sand you can also see that
the sand replaces the bottom of the cups. The sand replaces the base to make it even stronger than it
was before. The sand s replacing the tension which causes the cups to stretch back out again and make
this experiment a lot more interesting. Compression is the last thing going on here in this experiment.
Compression is thrust, load, stress, compressing, squeezing, crushing, weight, and heaviness. Take the
paper again and after you ve used tension with it let s use compression. If you crush the paper into a
ball. This is compression. Now compression is similar to pressure in this project actually, pressure
causes compression but they are a little bit different. Take another example an air compressor. The
machine inside is compressing and compressing because it is trapped. When you cut out the bottoms
of the cups you see that the cups fall and you do too this is compression in this experiment. You can

Gait Assessment
Gait is the most important function of daily living activities for all human beings. As physical
therapists and researchers we are particularly interested in evaluation of gait. There is a distinct
necessity for objective measurement of gait because without it the excellence of treatment decisions is
condensed, due to subjective and often unreliable nature of the assessment. Objective measures must
be employed to validate efficacy of the treatment protocol, a function that has become imperative
since health care resources are becoming more strained and health care providers are held more
accountable1. Gait assessment is an everyday responsibility of the therapist, and visual assessment
seems unreliable and erratic for the most part. Measurement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There is evidence of using the software for populations with Stroke and Parkinson s disease, and
children with Cerebral Palsy. The psychometric properties of the walkway system have been
established in all these populations and normalization data is available for children as well. No data is
available for children diagnosed as idiopathic toe walkers. Persistent toe walking beyond age two
years merits further investigation because it can be a first sign of an underlying neuromuscular or
developmental abnormality like Cerebral Palsy (CP), Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and autism3 5.
Walking on toes has numerous consequences and primary gait deviations are seen in subjects at ankle
joint6. Evidence also shows that idiopathic toe walkers have significant increase in ankle
plantarflexion during stance and swing phases6. Hence, a bigger project to evaluate the use of
GAITRite in children diagnosed as idiopathic toe walkers is being planned. Therefore, the current
review aims to highlight available literature on the use of GAITRite in different populations and their
findings on the validity and reliability measures. Table 1 elaborates different studies valuated in

Paradise Lost Short Story Analysis
In Paradise Lost, author Terry Hekker contrasts her new life, as a housewife, with what she had
experienced 30 years earlier. In this article, Hekker depicts her personal experience of being a full
time working mother and how much it hurt when when she was divorced after 40 elongated years of
marriage. It was mortifying for her to cope with the loneliness she felt after their divorce and,
unfortunately she was forced to reestablish herself back from scratch. Defending her point, Terry
admits her sorrow/frustration stating, I wasn t advocating that mothers forgo careers to stay home with
their children; I was simply defending my choice as a valid one.¨ (Hecker 38, p5) Hekker has a strong
opinion on the matter of being a housewife Unlike Satisfactions of Housewifery and Motherhood ,
where Hekker stated how she enjoyed her role as a stay at home mom, Paradise Lost is written
differently to advise mothers/current housewives to have a backup plan and a strong education base
behind their occupation of Housewifery. By alluding to her past (The Satisfactions of Housewifery
and Motherhood) and through the use of her degrading and defensive language, Hekker advises
women and other housewives to be prepared for anything to happen to themselves in a marriage.
Hekker s enthusiasm on the topic of Housewifery shifted completely as her life took a dramatic shift;
on her 40th wedding anniversary her husband filed for divorce. She writes, so i was predictably

Cyberbullying The Most Powerful Organized Crime
1. believe that the mafia/ the mob is the most detrimental organized crime group to society, due to
their resiliency. In the video we watched over the mafia, over one hundred people spanning multiple
states got booked in a bust so large they had to use a military base for booking. This shows me that
these organized crime groups are still functioning in the US today and committing crimes such as
murder, corruption, racketeering, and extortion. These groups have survived for hundreds of years in
the United States and abroad, this shows their power, determination, resiliency, and danger to society.
I believe that prison gangs are the most powerful organized crime group to society due to their large
criminal network and ability to control crime from inside of a prison. Prison gangs are so powerful
and scary because they do not just commit crimes in prison, but also control street gangs. These
leaders are so powerful that they can call shots and hots from inside supermax prisons where they are
locked in their cells for twenty three hours a day. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

victims varying from harassment to death. In the Lori Drew case, the dangerous consequences were

Choice Theory Middle Adulthood
As we go through our developmental life span in young and middle adulthood, we become involve in
situations that we cannot change, but we as individuals can make a choice to change ourselves.
Choices start to be done in infancy and continue through the physiological, developmental stages of
childhood, adolescence, young, middle and older adulthood (Glasser, 2010). Dr. William Glasser
developed the Choice Theory which is defined as the explanation of human behavior based on internal
motivation (Glasser, 2010). In this paper, the choice theory will be examined to explain human
behavior in young and middle adulthood, how this theory can be incorporated into social work
practice and a look at individuals from different cultures to determine if their human needs identified
in the Choice Theory reflect their experiences and why. Young and middle adulthood are broken down
into age ranges, and each range has different characteristics that an individual should ... Show more

When applying the Choice Theory to young and middle adulthood, five basic needs, survival, love and
belonging, power, freedom, and fun, are identified that each should achieve (Zastrow Kirst Ashman,

stability, housing, food, water and other necessities to maintain a healthy lifestyle. This is related to
the characteristics in young and middle adulthood were between the ages of 18 65, is considered the

Ashman, (2016), young adulthood can be considered the healthiest time of life (p. 471). In young and
middle adulthood, intimate relationships are established, and the need for love and belonging has been

Synthesis of 3-Nitrobenzaldehyde Essay
Abstract
This experiment is about the synthesis of 3 nitrobenzaldehyde through nitration. The nitration of
benzaldehyde is an example of an electrophilic aromatic substitution reaction, in which a proton of an
aromatic ring is replaced by a nitro group. Many aromatic substitution reactions are known to occur
when an aromatic substrate is allowed to react with a suitable electrophilic reagent, and many other
groups besides nitro may be introduced into the ring. Although the reaction produced a low yield at
the end, the yield is calculated from the reaction and limiting reagent.

Stage 1 of the mechanism of nitration
As the NO2+ ion approached the delocalised electrons in the benzene, those electrons were strongly
attracted toward the positive charge.
Two electrons from the delocalised system were used to form a new bond with the NO2+ ion. Because
those two electrons aren t a part of the delocalised system any longer, the delocalisation was partly
broken, and in the process the ring gained a positive charge.
Stage two
Figure 2. Stage 2 of the nitration mechanism
The second stage involved a hydrogensulphate ion, HSO4 , which was produced at the same time as
the NO2+ ion. This removed a hydrogen from the ring to form sulphuric acid the catalyst had
therefore been regenerated. The electrons which originally joined the hydrogen to the ring were now
used to re establish the delocalised system.

Merger Is The Merging Of Jds Fitel Inc. And Uniphase Corp
1. Definitions:
1.1. Merger: A merger is a combining of two or more companies to form a new company . An example
of a merger is the merging of JDS Fitel Inc. and Uniphase Corp. in 1999 to form JDS Uniphase.
1.2. Acquisition: To acquire another firm, usually through the purchase of shares of the company or to
buy assets of the business directly. Acquisition is the purchase of one company by another in which no
new company is formed . An example of an acquisition is Manulife Financial Corporation s 2004
acquisition of John Hancock Financial Services Inc.
2. Types of Mergers:
2.1. Horizontal Merger One company acquires a competing company. After being carefully reviewed
it may be deemed as anticompetitive.
2.2. Vertical Merger When a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are mixed conclusions as to whether mergers have a positive effect on innovation and synergies,
research, productivity of the new company. However, mergers and acquisitions appear to have a
positive economic effect on the company in the short term, allowing the company to reduce costs, it
can have a negative effect on productivity and innovation longer term.
3. Advantages and disadvantages of mergers:
3.1. Advantages:
3.1.1. Small, biotech firms and university labs can help to plug the innovation gap, and even some mid
size pharmaceutical firms are operating with R D visions and in a therapeutic area to build detailed
knowledge.
3.1.2. Other Economies of Scale. All the potential economies of scale that can arise is the main
advantage of merger. Example: In a horizontal merger, this could be quite extensive, especially if there
are high fixed costs in the industry. Note: if the merger was a vertical merger or Conglomerate Merger,
the scope for economies of scale would be lower.
3.1.3. Avoid Duplication. In some industries it makes sense to have a merger to avoid duplication. For
example: two bus companies may be competing over the same stretch of roads. Consumers could
benefit from a single firm with lower costs. Avoiding duplication would have environmental benefits
and help reduce congestion.
3.1.4. Regulation of Monopoly. Monopoly is characterized by an absence of competition, which often
results in high prices and

The Buffalo Bills are very good at losing and disappointing their fans, while the Patriots are fantastic at bending the rules and winning Super Bowls. In baseball, each team is built around a specific group of players in order to create the best possible chance to win the World Series. It seems that recently, few popular songs have lyrics with meaning. Most feature lyrics that will appeal to the masses to sell the most records. This is where Bryce Vine differentiates himself from these artists. His lyrics share stories and experiences from his life, and are very personalized for the listener. Reviewing current data on women in the workplace, findings of studies on the relationship between gender diversity in senior management and company performance, and the literature on gender behavioral differences and the workplace, this article explores the possible reasons for the persistent wage and gender gap between women and men in senior leadership positions and discusses possible remedies (Meyerson, D.E. • 23. Laundry Detergents As A Cleansing Agent Introduction Laundry detergents are a cleansing agent that is widely used in the industry to clean laundry. The term detergent refers to mixtures of chemical compounds including Alkyl Sulphonates, which are similar to soap but less affected by hard water (Farlex, 2014). Like soap, detergent increases the ability of water to penetrate fabric and break down greases and dirt, however they are derived from organic acids rather than fatty acids (Mifflin, 2005). A detergent is an ion or molecule that contains both polar and nonpolar components. The polar component allows the detergent to dissolve in the water, whereas the nonpolar component solubilizes greasy materials that are the usual target of the cleaning process. Their molecules then surround the particles of grease and dirt, allowing them to be carried away thus leaving your clothes clean. This EEI explores the performance of two different laundry powders (Fab and Woolworths select Home brand) in different types of water; ranging from soft to hard. On the front, typical of all Panathenaic amphorae, is an image of Athena holding a spear, featuring a limited but still visually striking use of color. Dark red and white adorn her apparel, helmet, and shield. Her skin is also colored with a whiteish tone this detail is perhaps a tradition left over from the much earlier Minoan civilization, whose art made the visual distinction of female from male with lighter skin tones. Incised lines are used to depict intricate decorations on her tunic. In this panel, Athena is flanked on either side by Doric columns, an inscription running up the side of one, and roosters atop both. The significance of the roosters remains unknown, but some have theorized that the presence of the birds could have something to do with the Greek word for rooster, alektruon, which means defender, while others suggest that they are symbolic of Zeus, Athena s father. The neck and the foot of the vase are decorated on both sides. The back of the vase displays a scene from a stadion footrace, the event for which this prize would have been awarded. All 5 athletes in the panel assume the heroically nude state that was more than common in Greek society, and detailed musculature is delineated with the use of incised lines. As with Athena on the other side, Minoan influence is evident in the scene, evidenced by the pinched waists if the runners. Beyond the focal points of both scenes, no details are used to indicate their surrounding landscape, in a very similar fashion to the Berlin painter s style. Also like the Berlin painter, there is evidence of perspective, as the athlete s legs and arms overlap each other to provide a sense of relative space, however, this detail disappears on the other side of the vase, as Athena s spear runs behind her head, contrary to the position it is suggested to take by the way she ... What Are The Consequences Of The Crusades Before the Crusades began, in the 11th century, Western Europe had emerged with great power, while Mediterranean civilizations were being invaded by Seljuk Turks. After years of war, the general Alexius Comnenus took the throne of Byzantine in 1081 and consolidated control over the remaining empire as known as Alexius I ( Crusades. ). By 1905, Alexius sent word to Pope Urban II asking for troops from the West to help face the Turkish threat. Alexius request came at a time when the relations between Christians from the east and west were improving. By November 1905, the pope had called on Western Christians to take up arms so they could aid the Byzantines and recapture the Holy Land from Muslim control ( Crusades ). The second form of conflict is relationship based conflict in which relationships and interaction play a major part between team members and individuals. William Gaddis once said Power doesn t corrupt people, People corrupt power In Animal Farm and Mouseland both of the animals who have the power take over and create corrupt and unequal societies. This causes the societies to fall under the rules of greedy and selfish leaders. The authors of Animal Farm and Mouseland use the narrative techniques of characterization and conflict to illustrate messages about how power can destroy societies and take away the equality in the society. First, in Animal Farm and Mouseland the authors use characterization to show how power can destroy societies and can take away the equality that is in the society. For example, in Animal Farm, George Orwell uses the pigs as a way to show the different levels of importance. It shows how the other animals are always below the pigs. On pages 35 and 36 it states You do not imagine, I hope, that we pigs are doing this in a spirit of selfishness and privilege? Many of us actually dislike milk and apples. I dislike them myself. Our sole object in taking these things is to preserve our health. Milk and apples (this had been proven by science, comrades) contain substances absolutely necessary to the well being of a pig. We pigs are brainworkers. Orwell uses the words absolutely necessary to the well being of a pig making it seem the most important to the pigs and no other animals. This means that the pigs started to take the things they wanted and decided they were the ones who had all of the power. This shows that the power they created could give them more equal rights than the others. In a similar ways Tommy Douglas uses the cats to show how the other animals are below them and the cats are the ones who have power. In paragraph 3 of Mouseland it states A government made up of big, fat, black cats. Douglas states fat, black, cats. characterizing the cats are lazy and useless. This means that in Mouseland there was a society run by animals who didn t do what they needed and they were lazy. This shows that just because of the way the cats are characterized they aren t good leaders and they have the power. This shows that in Animal Farm and Mouseland the people in power were characterized as greedy and selfish, but came off to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Comparison of A Long Day s Journey Into Night and Birdman In the art of storytelling, the artist tends to rely on a specific pattern of story development. This pattern, as we have seen in the numerous literary examples that we have read so far, naturally conforms to a rigid framework one that we, as humans, repeatedly desire. This framework was described by Dan Harmon as the story circle , and mirrors the cyclical nature of our conscious perceptive capabilities, as well as our understanding of the universe surrounding us. The pursuit of harmony captivates and empowers each member of the Tyrone family, and the hope of true happiness drives them. The attitudes regarding the drinking age have been based off statistics and society s varying opinion. Alcohol is a toxic depressant that has a damaging effect on the human body. As a result, to prevent excessive alcoholic consumption, the ratification of the 18th amendment took place from 1919 to 1939. This established the Prohibition Act, which banned the transportation, manufacturing and selling of an alcoholic beverage. However, illegal production of alcohol continued to take place in secret. Gradually prohibition laws became difficult to enforce. As a result, the Prohibition Act was repealed in 1933. In 1984, congress mandated a law which would raise the drinking age from 18 to 21 through the National Minimum Drinking Age. Reasoning for mandating an older drinking age, was to enhance public safety and promote good health. In 1988, all 50 states enforced the drinking age to 21. He protests that civil authority should be limited to civil matters and that magistrates had no jurisdiction over the soul (174). Meaning that the government does not have the right to enforce religious duties on people, to let them believe on their own. Williams put it as wanting to build a wall of separation between state and church in order to keep the holy and pure religion of Jesus Christ from contamination by the slightest taint of earthly support (Miller 174). If you crush the paper into a ball. This is compression. Now compression is similar to pressure in this project actually, pressure causes compression but they are a little bit different. Take another example an air compressor. The machine inside is compressing and compressing because it is trapped. When you cut out the bottoms of the cups you see that the cups fall and you do too this is compression in this experiment. You can compress almost anything in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Gait Assessment Gait is the most important function of daily living activities for all human beings. As physical therapists and researchers we are particularly interested in evaluation of gait. There is a distinct necessity for objective measurement of gait because without it the excellence of treatment decisions is condensed, due to subjective and often unreliable nature of the assessment. Objective measures must be employed to validate efficacy of the treatment protocol, a function that has become imperative since health care resources are becoming more strained and health care providers are held more accountable1. Gait assessment is an everyday responsibility of the therapist, and visual assessment seems unreliable and erratic for the most part. Measurement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is evidence of using the software for populations with Stroke and Parkinson s disease, and children with Cerebral Palsy. The psychometric properties of the walkway system have been established in all these populations and normalization data is available for children as well. No data is available for children diagnosed as idiopathic toe walkers. Persistent toe walking beyond age two years merits further investigation because it can be a first sign of an underlying neuromuscular or developmental abnormality like Cerebral Palsy (CP), Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and autism3 5. Walking on toes has numerous consequences and primary gait deviations are seen in subjects at ankle joint6. Evidence also shows that idiopathic toe walkers have significant increase in ankle plantarflexion during stance and swing phases6. Hence, a bigger project to evaluate the use of GAITRite in children diagnosed as idiopathic toe walkers is being planned. Therefore, the current review aims to highlight available literature on the use of GAITRite in different populations and their findings on the validity and reliability measures. Table 1 elaborates different studies valuated in reaching our objective to validate the use of GAITRite as a gold standard tool for measuring temporo spatial gait ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Paradise Lost Short Story Analysis In Paradise Lost, author Terry Hekker contrasts her new life, as a housewife, with what she had experienced 30 years earlier. In this article, Hekker depicts her personal experience of being a full time working mother and how much it hurt when when she was divorced after 40 elongated years of marriage. It was mortifying for her to cope with the loneliness she felt after their divorce and, unfortunately she was forced to reestablish herself back from scratch. Defending her point, Terry admits her sorrow/frustration stating, I wasn t advocating that mothers forgo careers to stay home with their children; I was simply defending my choice as a valid one.¨ (Hecker 38, p5) Hekker has a strong opinion on the matter of being a housewife Unlike Satisfactions of Housewifery and Motherhood , where Hekker stated how she enjoyed her role as a stay at home mom, Paradise Lost is written differently to advise mothers/current housewives to have a backup plan and a strong education base behind their occupation of Housewifery. By alluding to her past (The Satisfactions of Housewifery and Motherhood) and through the use of her degrading and defensive language, Hekker advises women and other housewives to be prepared for anything to happen to themselves in a marriage. Hekker s enthusiasm on the topic of Housewifery shifted completely as her life took a dramatic shift; on her 40th wedding anniversary her husband filed for divorce. She writes, so i was predictably stunned and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Cyberbullying The Most Powerful Organized Crime 1. believe that the mafia/ the mob is the most detrimental organized crime group to society, due to their resiliency. In the video we watched over the mafia, over one hundred people spanning multiple states got booked in a bust so large they had to use a military base for booking. This shows me that these organized crime groups are still functioning in the US today and committing crimes such as murder, corruption, racketeering, and extortion. These groups have survived for hundreds of years in the United States and abroad, this shows their power, determination, resiliency, and danger to society. I believe that prison gangs are the most powerful organized crime group to society due to their large criminal network and ability to control crime from inside of a prison. Prison gangs are so powerful and scary because they do not just commit crimes in prison, but also control street gangs. These leaders are so powerful that they can call shots and hots from inside supermax prisons where they are locked in their cells for twenty three hours a day. ... I believe that cyberbullying is more harmful because it is more widespread and common than first degree murder. Due to the sheer number of instances that cyberbullying takes place, it is very harmful to society and kids in particular. One of the issues with cyberbullying is the serious and real consequences for victims varying from harassment to death. In the Lori Drew case, the dangerous consequences were clearly seen as one teen took their own life, and while not all cyberbullying cases end in death it is one of the many possible reactions to ... • 46. Choice Theory Middle Adulthood As we go through our developmental life span in young and middle adulthood, we become involve in situations that we cannot change, but we as individuals can make a choice to change ourselves. Choices start to be done in infancy and continue through the physiological, developmental stages of childhood, adolescence, young, middle and older adulthood (Glasser, 2010). Dr. William Glasser developed the Choice Theory which is defined as the explanation of human behavior based on internal motivation (Glasser, 2010). In this paper, the choice theory will be examined to explain human behavior in young and middle adulthood, how this theory can be incorporated into social work practice and a look at individuals from different cultures to determine if their human needs identified in the Choice Theory reflect their experiences and why. Young and middle adulthood are broken down into age ranges, and each range has different characteristics that an individual should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When applying the Choice Theory to young and middle adulthood, five basic needs, survival, love and belonging, power, freedom, and fun, are identified that each should achieve (Zastrow Kirst Ashman, 2016, p. 519). To meet the need of survival an individual must be able to meet the basic needs of stability, housing, food, water and other necessities to maintain a healthy lifestyle. This is related to the characteristics in young and middle adulthood were between the ages of 18 65, is considered the time period where stability is being established with career and family and the essential needs of the Choice Theory can be met. Health in young adulthood is stable as well. According to Zastrow, Kirst Ashman, (2016), young adulthood can be considered the healthiest time of life (p. 471). In young and middle adulthood, intimate relationships are established, and the need for love and belonging has been met. When ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Synthesis of 3-Nitrobenzaldehyde Essay Abstract This experiment is about the synthesis of 3 nitrobenzaldehyde through nitration. The nitration of benzaldehyde is an example of an electrophilic aromatic substitution reaction, in which a proton of an aromatic ring is replaced by a nitro group. Many aromatic substitution reactions are known to occur when an aromatic substrate is allowed to react with a suitable electrophilic reagent, and many other groups besides nitro may be introduced into the ring. Although the reaction produced a low yield at the end, the yield is calculated from the reaction and limiting reagent. Keywords: electrophilic aromatic substitution, nitration, aldehyde, nitrating group Introduction Electrophilic substitution happens in many of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stage 1 of the mechanism of nitration As the NO2+ ion approached the delocalised electrons in the benzene, those electrons were strongly attracted toward the positive charge. Two electrons from the delocalised system were used to form a new bond with the NO2+ ion. Because those two electrons aren t a part of the delocalised system any longer, the delocalisation was partly broken, and in the process the ring gained a positive charge. Stage two Figure 2. Stage 2 of the nitration mechanism The second stage involved a hydrogensulphate ion, HSO4 , which was produced at the same time as the NO2+ ion. This removed a hydrogen from the ring to form sulphuric acid the catalyst had therefore been regenerated. The electrons which originally joined the hydrogen to the ring were now used to re establish the delocalised system. Table 1. Observations from the experiment proper Observations: 89 mL conc. • 49. Merger Is The Merging Of Jds Fitel Inc. And Uniphase Corp 1. Definitions: 1.1. Merger: A merger is a combining of two or more companies to form a new company . An example of a merger is the merging of JDS Fitel Inc. and Uniphase Corp. in 1999 to form JDS Uniphase. 1.2. Acquisition: To acquire another firm, usually through the purchase of shares of the company or to buy assets of the business directly. Acquisition is the purchase of one company by another in which no new company is formed . An example of an acquisition is Manulife Financial Corporation s 2004 acquisition of John Hancock Financial Services Inc. 2. Types of Mergers: 2.1. Horizontal Merger One company acquires a competing company. After being carefully reviewed it may be deemed as anticompetitive. 2.2. Vertical Merger When a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are mixed conclusions as to whether mergers have a positive effect on innovation and synergies, research, productivity of the new company. However, mergers and acquisitions appear to have a positive economic effect on the company in the short term, allowing the company to reduce costs, it can have a negative effect on productivity and innovation longer term. 3. Advantages and disadvantages of mergers: 3.1. Advantages: 3.1.1. Small, biotech firms and university labs can help to plug the innovation gap, and even some mid size pharmaceutical firms are operating with R D visions and in a therapeutic area to build detailed knowledge. 3.1.2. Other Economies of Scale. All the potential economies of scale that can arise is the main advantage of merger. Example: In a horizontal merger, this could be quite extensive, especially if there are high fixed costs in the industry. Note: if the merger was a vertical merger or Conglomerate Merger, the scope for economies of scale would be lower. 3.1.3. Avoid Duplication. In some industries it makes sense to have a merger to avoid duplication. For example: two bus companies may be competing over the same stretch of roads. Consumers could benefit from a single firm with lower costs. Avoiding duplication would have environmental benefits and help reduce congestion. 3.1.4. Regulation of Monopoly. Monopoly is characterized by an absence of competition, which often results in high prices and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
