Can you identify the benefits, and decide their relevance to your business 2. Are you then able to quantify the benefits such that you can build a business case to your board of directors

WELL , WHAT DOES ORACLE SAY ARE THE REASONS FOR UPGRADING YOUR CURRENT JDE RELEASE:- “ AN UPGRADE PROJECT IS SIMILAR TO AN IMPLEMENTATION PROJECT BUT SIGNIFICANTLY MORE EFFICIENT AS IT BUILDS UPON YOUR PREVIOUS IMPLEMENTATION EFFORTS “ mmm........ not much help there when it comes to specifics !

Y UPGRADE CAN YOU INDENTIFY THE BENEFITS ? continued 1 Oracle go on to say:- upgrading may provide access to new functionality. in a era of stricter regulation, upgrading may facilitate compliance allowing the retiring of customisations in favour of standard processes. upgrading may allow you to become more efficient by deploying performance and usability enhancements. you may need to upgrade to remain eligible for the higher levels of support. functional enhancements in JDE World A9xx and JDE EnterpriseOne E9 may help you reach your business goals hmmm... this helps us a little more but not maybe at the level of detail we need to build a case !
- 5. Y UPGRADE AND WHAT ABOUT QUANTIFYING THE BENEFITS ? Well – firstly we need to understand our target audience and how they allocate scarce funds to projects. Generally, our Board or FD will want a financial appraisal – and to assist in comparison between other equally deserving projects – that requires an ROI (Return on Investment) calculation...................but

Y UPGRADE QUANTIFYING THE BENEFITS –continued 1 According to Oracle, a recent independent study says:- “ ROI is too difficult to establish, and companies are moving to the simpler appraisal of:- Rapid Time To Value” ... this is really more appropriate to new implementations where the Accelerate approach is being deployed... ...whereas in an Upgrade situation you potentially already have a baseline understanding of current costs and user productivity (e.g. It takes 10 days of 1 person’s time to close the month end), and so you can take the ROI route

Y UPGRADE QUANTIFYING THE BENEFITS –continued 2 The study that Oracle are referring to was conducted in June 2009 by the Aberdeen Group under the heading of:- “ Measuring the ROI of ERP in SMB” and it revealed some interesting reasons or excuses why ROI was not employed:- 48% said it was too hard to measure 33% said ERP was a necessary part of doing business 29% said they simply manage against their IT Budget 24% said ‘don’t have the necessary tools!’ .... by my reading, the majority of respondents would run an ROI calculation if it wasn’t so hard to measure or if they had the tools!
