Woolworths is an Australian supermarket chain that opened its first store in 1924 and experienced rapid growth between the 1930s and 1940s. It became the largest retailer of fresh fruits and vegetables in the 1970s and entered the petrol market by partnering with Caltex in the 1980s. Today, Woolworths has over 700 stores, employs more than 190,000 people and serves over 13 million customers daily. It aims to offer low prices through sourcing the majority of its fresh produce from Australian farms and has established extensive training programs for employees.
