Pressure on today’s business is clearly affecting the work of those leading the sustainability agenda. The world is changing, so is their role. This morning, we gathered 25 Chief Sustainability Officers of Belgian companies to exchange challenges and best practices. They remain solid on the business case of sustainable business models and their added value for all stakeholders. At the same time, they remain realistic on the necessary steps to take throughout the journey. “Sustainability is about transformation. It's a marathon, not a sprint.” “The constantly changing regulatory framework is an issue. As a business, we need a 5 to 10 year horizon to build the business case.” “We learned to bring a compelling story to our internal stakeholders, from CEO to finance and procurement.” A warm thank you to Euronext Brussels for hosting us around the breakfast table as to Catherine Bals and Jakoba Van der Linden to open the dialogue with your testimonials. #CSOroundtable #WeMakeTheShift

Five industry leaders, united under The Shift vzw/asbl, made this clear in newspaper L'Echo when meeting Federal Minister of Economy David Clarinval. Their message: circular business models are already delivering - lowering costs, reducing emissions, creating local jobs, and strengthening competitiveness. As Magali Frankl, Director of The Shift, put it: “We are calling for federal coordination, circular public procurement and support for pioneers.” The Shift and its members stand ready to continue the dialogue and contribute towards a resilient economy that serves society and protects our planet. 🙏 Thank you to L'Echo and Maxime Delrue for the coverage. Today, we held a working visit with Belgium’s Minister of Economy, David Clarinval, and members of The Shift vzw/asbl at an industrial site in Aisemont. With this initiative, participating members Carmeuse, Cofinimmo, Colas Belgium, Jan De Nul Group & VELUX aim to show that competitiveness and circularity go hand in hand, delivering a triple benefit: - Less dependence on raw materials and energy, hence lower costs - Circular investment creates local, non-offshorable employment - Reusing materials reduces pressure on the environnement and public health If we want to make circular business the competitive default – cutting costs and CO₂ while creating local jobs, the Belgian economy needs coherent standards and targeted incentives, a level playing field for circular products and a federal catalyst role to coordinate regions, steer public procurement and fast-track permitting. At The Shift, we care deeply about having the voice of our members heard in the public debate. Thank you to David Clarinval and the participating business leaders for their open-minded spirit and constructive dialogue. #CircularEconomy #Competitiveness #PublicProcurement #WeMakeTheShift

For 10 years, The Shift has brought together over 530 Belgian organisations to work towards an economy that’s positive for climate, nature and people. The good news? Many pioneers are already showing the way. The challenge? They’re often doing it alone. It’s time to rethink the rules of the game and create a level playing field where doing good is the standard, not the exception. 🔗 Read Director Magali Frankl’s full opinion piece in L'Echo (EN version here): https://lnkd.in/e_v-zajn 👉 Will you be part of the shift? #ResilientEconomy #SustainableLeadership #TheShift #10YearsTheShift #WeMakeTheShift

What a night. What a community 🔥 We could say and post a lot about yesterday’s 10th anniversary celebration – and believe us, we wíll in the coming weeks – but for now, just this: “A night bubbling with ideas, contagious energy and inspiring encounters – just like The Shift itself: dynamic, thought-provoking, and full of people eager to move things forward together.” – as one guest put it. 🫶 Thank you to the 352 members and friends who celebrated with us and bravely conquered the rain 🫶 Thank you to our partners who helped make this party possible 🫶 Thank you to our team, who put their heart and soul into turning impact into movement, day after day 🫶 Thank you for the energy boost – enough to keep us going for at least another ten years And most of all: thank YOU for your continued commitment to shaping a sustainable economy and making the difference, together. We're feeling proud, hopeful and (not going to lie) quite happy there's a public holiday tomorrow! 🤩 #10yearsTheShift #WeMakeTheShift #BelgianSustainabilityCommunity #radioshow #speeddating #ourfuturein2035 #foodofthefuture #sustainabletransition Bedimo | De Standaard | Port of Antwerp-Bruges | Upcut | cirQ vzw | ELDERS | KlimaatContact vzw | Koen Schoors | Adélaïde Charlier | Louis De Jaeger | Youssef Kobo | Corinne Boulangier | Sabine Denis | Sabine Pauquay | Nathalie Guillaume | Vinz Kanté | Jakoba Van der Linden and many many more!

🏆 After 90 years, Royale Union Saint-Gilloise SCRL are Belgian champions again – and not just on the pitch. As the world’s only B Corp certified sports organisation and a proud member of The Shift, Union proves that social and environmental values can go hand in hand with top performance. Since their participation in our due diligence workshop series, their women’s team wears fully sustainable kits. “Not easy to break the news to the supplier,” said Head of Sustainability Raphaële Moeremans, “but management backed us. And the performance? Just as strong.” May their victory inspire more sports clubs to step up – for people and planet. 🌍⚽ #Bcorp #WeMakeTheShift B Lab Benelux Raphaële Moeremans
