Timber and Low Carbon engineering

About us

However the huge range of options and the technical complexity associated with modern timber design require particular skills and expertise. How many projects initially conceived in wood are finally realized with another material because designers lack expertise in this area? How many others executed in wood have deteriorated rapidly or present design flaws as a result of poor mastery of the characteristics of the wood? For WOW engineering, wood is a material that inspires us and one which we have come to know and understand over the years, enabling us to develop designs which to give it a meaningful place in every situation. For this reason we decided to develop an internal center of expertise in wood. Through this centre we hope to share our enthusiasm and better respond to the requirements of architects, building owners, engineering firms, contractors and manufacturers.

[ WOW days 2025 ] A look back at our teambuilding retreat.🌳 WOW engineering is, above all, 𝟭𝟳 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 behind all the projects we tackle head-on. On 1 and 2 September, we had the chance to get together for two days of discovery and discussion in the Semois region. An opportunity to review the past year, the projects completed, the objectives achieved and the challenges ahead. 🔦 We also took a few detours to visit the IFAPME construction site in Namur and La Croix de Jeumont in Wellin.👌 We wish everyone a successful return to work and look forward to collaborating with you! 🔔 More info ➡️ wow-engineering.com/about/

  • [ICTB 2025] WOW continues its journey in the Southern Hemisphere, joining New Zealand for the 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲𝘀 (𝗜𝗖𝗧𝗕 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱), taking place from 29 June to 2 July in Rotorua. We’re pleased to have Benoit Hargot present our timber footbridge project with several distinctive features: • a mass-timber box girder, where floors, walls and roof form a single integrated structural system • a 67.50-meter clear span, achieved without intermediate supports • a premier used of high-performance material in such applications: GLVL (Glued Laminated Veneer Lumber), produced by re-gluing LVL panels together   This ambitious piece of urban infrastructure demonstrates the structural potential of engineered wood for long-span bridges, even in high-traffic environments. The overall concept and full design, architecture and engineering mission were carried out by Ney & Partners, with the timber structure engineered by our team at WOW engineering. With over 150 participants from around the world, WOW stands as the sole representative from the BENELUX region, and one of the few contributors from French-speaking Europe. We’re glad to be able to share the results of this collaborative research and design effort with fellow engineers and designers, in the hope of promoting construction techniques that contribute to decarbonizing our industry—particularly in the field of infrastructure and civil works, where the structure has a major influence on the overall carbon footprint. 🤝Project partners : De Werkvennootschap - Viabuild! - Holzbau Amann GmbH - sblumer 🔗 More on the project: https://lnkd.in/erDrWtVR 🔗 Full programme of ICTB 2025: https://lnkd.in/gEAwnUuE #WOWengineering #NeyAndPartners #ICTB2025 #TimberBridges #SustainableDesign #BridgeEngineering #LowCarbon #StructuralInnovation #WoodDesign #Brussels #LVL

[Project milestone] Provisional handover of the Pachéco building in Brussels! 🌿🏛️ We’re proud to celebrate the completion of the major renovation of this iconic 50-year-old office building in the heart of the city. 🔹 11,000 m² of refurbished space 🔹 3 years of design and 2 years of construction 🔹 Over 600 m³ of timber implemented 🔹 🌍 75 kg CO₂eq/m² for the structure — compared to 450 kg for a similar new build Rather than demolishing and rebuilding, this project demonstrates the power of preservation and transformation. By renovating the existing structure, we’ve avoided the emission of thousands of tons of CO₂, while creating a sustainable and efficient workspace. And yes — the result is surprisingly close to the first architectural renderings! This project is part of RENOLAB.B by RENOLUTION and was recently visited by ecobuild.brussels. 🔗 More info: https://lnkd.in/eNMzww-r Client: Befimmo Architects: architectesassoc+ Structural engineers: WOW engineering MEP engineers: Arcadis General contractor: Louis De Waele © Serge Brison #SustainableRenovation #LowCarbonConstruction #CLT #TimberEngineering #ReuseBeforeDemolish #CircularConstruction #Brussels #Pachéco #RenolabB #WOWengineering
