Info
Eklipse was created in 2016 to help governments, institutions, businesses, and NGOs make better-informed decisions when it comes to biodiversity and ecosystem services in Europe. It has already answered 12 requests on a wide range of often contentious topics, by synthesizing the best available knowledge from both scientists and other knowledge holders. A European Union funded project until November 2020, it is now managed by Alternet, the European Science-Policy Interface on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, from December 2020. Please have a look at our newly launched website to check all our evidence reports and so much more! www.eklipse.eu

🌍 Faktencheck Artenvielfalt: The State of Biodiversity in Germany Biodiversity loss is not only a global crisis — it is happening here in Germany. The new report "Faktencheck Artenvielfalt," authored by 150 experts from 75 institutions, assesses the current status of biodiversity and outlines prospects for conservation. 🔎 Key insights: - Many species once common are becoming rare, and ecosystems are under rapid change. - Main drivers include intensive land use, habitat loss, pollution, and climate change — all human-driven. - But there is hope: examples in the report show that with the right conditions and collective will, biodiversity can recover. The message is clear: since we are the main cause of biodiversity decline, we also hold the power to reverse it. The report highlights the pathways for a societal transformation towards an economy that works with, not against, nature. 👉 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dipFu5sN #Biodiversity #SciencePolicy #Faktencheck #FEdA #NatureConservation #IPBES #NationalAssessment #BiodiversityCrisis #ScienceCommunication

🌍 Eklipse and the BioAgora Project featured at the 2025 Summer School on Science Policy for Environmental Action hosted by the Geneva Science-Policy Interface (GSPI)! Marie Vandewalle was invited to present both Eklipse and BioAgora Project during this dynamic programme, which brought together experts and participants from 18 institutions to explore how science can effectively support environmental policymaking. The summer school explored how science can effectively support global environmental governance, evidence use in policymaking, and the transformation of science–policy interfaces in an era of interconnected crises. Many thanks to the organisers for facilitating such an engaging exchange on science, governance, and action! #SciencePolicy #Biodiversity #EnvironmentalGovernance #HorizonEurope #GSPI #SciencePolicyInterface #EklipseEurope
🌍 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘄𝗮𝘆! We're proud to bring together a talented and diverse group of participants from 18 institutions, from research centres and UN bodies to universities and innovation foundations. 🧠 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟭 set the stage for a week of critical dialogue and deep reflection, centered on: 🔺 The transformation of global environmental governance in an era of interconnected crises. 🔺 The challenge of aligning scientific knowledge with political processes in a fragmented multilateral system. 🔺 What it takes to communicate science effectively in high-stakes, high-complexity policy spaces. 🔺 The growing importance of trust, timing, and target-setting when science meets diplomacy. 💬 A roundtable with policy actors from government representatives brought these ideas to life, highlighting the challenges and opportunities of engaging science in global negotiations. 🛠️ The day closed with an applied session on mapping policy processes, giving participants tools to decode and navigate global governance processes, actors and channels of influence. ⚖️ 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮 took us to the UN’s Environmental House, where we explored the politics of evidence—how knowledge is shaped, trusted, and applied in environmental policymaking, especially within the UN system. From identifying climate-security hotspots to making environmental data usable in negotiations, the day highlighted the many ways evidence must be framed to drive impact. Through interactive sessions and real-world case studies, participants engaged with experts and discussed: 🔺 The role of institutions like UNEP/GRID-Geneva in translating data into actionable insights for global negotiations 🔺The importance of humility, transparency, and learning the language of policy for scientists working in international arenas 🔺Why transforming science–policy interfaces is not optional in an era of polycrisis The applied session of the day was on reflecting on policy-relevant outputs, guiding participants on how to respond to an evidence request and how to package the results. 🙏 Thanks to our speakers and facilitators for deepening the conversation—and pushing us to think critically about the role of science in environmental action. 🔗 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/edKJ74wh Frederique Guerin, PhD Alexandre B.
