🚀 As part of the UK Government’s wider reforms to accelerate the growth of the national space sector, the RPO Regulatory Sandbox was launched to explore how licensing frameworks can evolve to support in-orbit servicing missions, a crucial step for the future of sustainable space operations.   🙏 Led jointly by D-Orbit, Astroscale, and ClearSpace, and supported by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) and the UK Space Agency (UKSA), Stage 1 of the Sandbox provided a collaborative, neutral environment where operators, customers, and regulators worked together on real-world scenarios.   🛰 The result is a shared foundation for building a regulatory ecosystem that promotes commercial growth while ensuring safety and sustainability in orbit. UKSA-DSIT news highlights the UK RPO Sandbox progress and report. We welcome today’s announcement by the UK Government, which outlines major reforms to accelerate the growth of the national space sector, including the creation of a more agile, innovation-ready regulatory framework. Among the highlights is the progress made through the RPO Regulatory Sandbox, a joint effort by D-Orbit, ClearSpace, and Astroscale, funded by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) and supported by the UK Space Agency, that brought together operators, customers, and regulators to tackle the licensing challenges of in-orbit servicing missions.   Stage 1 of the sandbox provided a unique opportunity to work through real-world scenarios in a collaborative, neutral environment. As we move into Stage 2, we look forward to building on this foundation to help shape a regulatory ecosystem that supports mission success, promotes commercial growth, and ensures safety and sustainability in orbit.
