A new commentary article titled, "Towards high-integrity biodiversity credits: balancing commensurability, ecological complexity and governance" has just been published, highlighting the need for systemic transparency and regulatory oversight. The work was led by IFB Theme leader Prof. Franziska Schrodt, and IFB Fellow, Dr Eun Hye Kim, in collaboration with the University of Nottingham, the Institute for Management Development (IMD), and the University of Lausanne. The paper reviews 11 major biodiversity credit suppliers against six integrity criteria defined by the International Advisory Panel on Biodiversity Credits. Results show an average score of 2 out of 3, with strengths in scientific grounding of metrics but notable weaknesses in verifiable outcomes, particularly relating to the independence of third-party validation and verification, and transparency in risk disclosure. #infinbio #biodiversity #finance #IAPBC #biodiversitycredits https://lnkd.in/e3q6dG7K

This week, UN Biodiversity joined the Atlantic Forest Conference in Brazil — a landmark pre-#COP30 event hosted by the Government of the state of Paraná and organized in collaboration with several Brazilian sub-national governments. The conference underscored the importance of regional cooperation in implementing global biodiversity and climate goals, including #Target3 and #Target12 of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework #KMGBF. We engaged with sub-national governments and local authorities, representatives of indigenous peoples and local communities, and environmental leaders with a view to strengthening local action in support of the implementation of the #KMGBF in Brazil—a mega biodiverse country and host of #COP30. At the conference, governors from seven states in Brazil’s South and Southeast regions came together to sign the Curitiba Charter, a formal commitment to protect and sustainably manage the Atlantic Forest — a biome that spans 17 states.
