The Port of Los Angeles is a proud sponsor of the Propeller Club Los Angeles-Long Beach, which is dedicated to supporting local high school seniors through its annual scholarship program. This year, we congratulate 10 exceptional local seniors, who were awarded scholarships. Representatives from the Port's Cargo Marketing Division, along with industry partners, joined these students on a harbor boat tour this week to celebrate their accomplishments.

About us
The Port of Los Angeles, America’s Port® and the premier gateway for international commerce, is located in San Pedro Bay, 25 miles south of downtown Los Angeles. This thriving seaport not only sustains its competitive edge with record-setting cargo operations, but is also known for its sustainable philosophy, advanced technology, and cutting-edge facilities. To maintain its position among the world’s top ports, the Port continuously addresses the modernization and efficiency of its cargo-handling terminals by investing in transportation and infrastructure projects. The Port of Los Angeles encompasses 7,500 acres of land and water along 43 miles of waterfront, and features both passenger and cargo terminals, including container, automobile, bulk and warehouse facilities that handle billions of dollars worth of cargo each year. When measured by container throughput, the Port has consecutively ranked as the No. 1 port in the nation since the year 2000. With an exceptional credit record, the Port maintains an AA bond rating, the highest rating attainable for self-funded ports. The Port also wields tremendous economic impact, generating employment for more than 3 million Americans nationwide. In California alone, more than 1 million jobs are related to trade though the Port of Los Angeles. In addition to its impressive cargo portfolio, the Port funds and maintains the LA Waterfront, and remains committed to enhancing public access to the waterfront by connecting visitors and local harbor communities with recreational and commercial attractions that expand and diversify the Port’s position as a premier source of economic vitality for the region. With miles of public promenade and walking paths, acres of open space and scenic views, the LA Waterfront blankets more than 400 acres of prime waterfront property and boasts historic Los Angeles Harbor landmarks, such as the Vincent Thomas Bridge, Angels Gate Lighthouse and Municipal Warehouse No. 1.

The Port of Los Angeles recently recognized 30 shipping lines for their participation in the Vessel Speed Reduction Program, the Port’s air quality and annual incentive program for vessel operators who reduce their speed within 20 and 40 nautical miles (nm) of Los Angeles Harbor. In 2024, the port-wide voluntary participation rate was 97% at 20 nm, and 95% at 40 nm – demonstrating just how close we are to our ultimate goal of 100%. The Port’s commitment to a cleaner environment remains a top priority, and achieving our environmental targets could not be done without our customers’ outstanding participation and cooperation, which last year alone contributed to the reduction of 31,117 tons of carbon dioxide. https://portofla.org/vsrp
