March Panorama

March Panorama

¡Welcome to the March edition of Energy Panorama!

Earlier this month, the Mexican Congress approved the secondary laws and legislation pertaining to a series of reforms of Mexico’s energy sector set forth by the Sheinbaum administration. The president has spoken of “energy sovereignty” and “energy justice.” She and her team have emphasized that her government will work to ensure equity, affordability and accessibility. Additionally, with the formal announcement of “Plan Mexico” in January and an important array of economic goals and objectives, the role of the energy sector is crucial to reach those milestones.

With that context, we have begun plans to organize a public forum on June 5 in Mexico City featuring a series of high-level discussions focused on the outlook for gas and power under the new legal and regulatory frameworks and as the reglamentos are being finalized. The event will convene against the backdrop of ongoing trade volatility with tariffs and potential revisions of the USMCA trade pact and what that portends for cross border energy trade, but also the impact on manufacturing and the nearshoring boom underway in Mexico.
