“Clarifying the difference between emissions trading schemes and voluntary carbon markets is crucial for India’s net-zero journey. Emissions trading schemes issue government-backed allowances that must be retired against compliance obligations, while voluntary carbon markets issue credits for verified, operational projects like renewable energy or carbon sequestration. Many countries struggle to transition between the two, but examples like California and the UK show how successful integration can drive real impact. For India to achieve net-zero by 2070, incentives must encourage on-the-ground action, blending regulated allowances with voluntary credits to build a resilient, effective carbon market.” -Mr Wayne Sharpe, CEO and Founder, Carbon Trade eXchange (CTX) at the #CIIEnergyConference #IECE2025 #EnergyTransition #NetZero2030 #CleanEnergy #SustainableEnergy #RenewableEnergyIndia #ViksitBharat2047 #IndiaGreenGrowth #GlobalEnergyCooperation

“India is taking key steps toward integrating its carbon market with the international system, focusing on Article 6.2 and 6.4 under the Paris Agreement. While 6.2 covers direct trading of carbon credits between countries and companies, including agreements like the one signed with Japan, 6.4’s rules are still unclear to many. Once finalised, 6.4 will enable broader global participation and clearer market mechanisms. India is closely monitoring these developments to align its carbon trading framework and enhance international collaboration in the fight against climate change,” said Mr Dr. Prasad Chaphekar, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) The session focused on key points: •Trading in RE and other forms of green energy •Addressing regulatory bottlenecks in the carbon credit framework •Enhancing the credibility and global integration of carbon markets by ensuring transparency, integrity, and robust offset mechanisms •Preparing industries for global carbon pricing and operationalizing India’s Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) with international linkages •Using Article 6.2 and Article 6.3 for bilateral trade in carbon credits Key dignitaries addressing the session included: • Mr Wayne Sharpe, CEO and Founder, Carbon Trade eXchange (CTX) (Online) • Mr Vijay Agrawal, Managing Director, Equirus Capital • Mr Vijayanand V, Head HSE and Carbon Credits Hero Future Energies • Dr Ajay K. “Decentralised solar is positioned as a commercially viable, large-scale energy initiative, not merely a rural welfare scheme. With an 18 GW programme underway in Madhya Pradesh, one of the largest globally, the approach integrates solar with storage and grid infrastructure to enhance reliability and address technical challenges such as reactive power and real-time supply. Instead of being viewed as a threat, decentralised solar complements conventional energy systems, offering a structured and scalable solution for a balanced energy future.” -Mr Manu Srivastava, Additional Chief Secretary, (New & Renewable Energy), Government of Madhya Pradesh at day 2 of #CIIEnergyConference #IECE2025 #EnergyTransition #NetZero2030 #CleanEnergy #SustainableEnergy #RenewableEnergyIndia #ViksitBharat2047 #IndiaGreenGrowth #GlobalEnergyCooperation

“Amid evolving global dynamics marked by volatility, shifting alliances, and energy transition imperatives, India faces a complex energy security landscape. Historically centered on supply scarcity, the focus has now shifted to ensuring affordability and reliability despite sufficient global availability. With high import dependencies, nearly 88–89% for oil and increasing reliance on gas and coal, India has diversified its energy sources beyond the Middle East, including imports from Russia and the U.S. However, price volatility, limited strategic reserves, and infrastructure constraints remain critical challenges. Strengthening storage, pipeline networks, and LNG infrastructure is essential as natural gas emerges as a pivotal bridge in the country's broader energy transition strategy.” -Mr Bhuwan Chandra Tripathi, Operating Partner and Senior Advisor, Essar Group at dat 2 of #CIIEnergyConference #IECE2025 #EnergyTransition #NetZero2030 #CleanEnergy #SustainableEnergy #RenewableEnergyIndia #ViksitBharat2047 #IndiaGreenGrowth #GlobalEnergyCooperation
