Identify the days of the week
Be able to say the days of the week in chronological order
Be able to understand how to find/identify the days of the week through school
        activities/centers

Materials/Resources Needed:

    - Construction paper
    - Pencils, markers, and crayons
    - New technologies (i.e. projector, speakers, pointer)
    - Blank calendar
    - Loose leaf paper
    - Computers
Introduction/Start-Up:

Start-off the day with the slow “Days of the week” song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fFirtO5-Ps

Step 1: Introduce the Days of the Week

   - Have one the children tell you what the day of the week is.
   - Have one student put up the date of the week on the calendar.
   - Have another student change the “Today Is” and “Yesterday Was” sheet.

Step 2: Days of the Week Rap

   - Introduce the 2nd Days of the Week song
   - This song will teach the students the days of the week AND the syllables that are in day.
   - The clapping helps the students retain how many syllables there are in each word, and
       it’s fun! 

Step 3: Centers

       1. Game on the computers - 1/3 of the classroom will be engaged on interactive games
that have to do with being able to identifying the days of the week.

       2. Book activity – 1/3 of the class will be creating their own book. A book will already
be made that has 8 pages. First page will contain a title and a picture. The students
will be instructed to dedicate one page per day in chronological order. Each page will
have to have a picture of what their favorite thing to do on the specific day.

       3. Carpet time- 1/3 of the students will be on the carpet engaging in an interactive
          activity with the teacher.

*Students will rotate and complete each center.

Step 4: Story Time

   - Read a book to the students that deals with the days of the week.

       =sbar

   - After the book is read, wrap up the concept by having them fill out a Days of the Week
Graphic Organizer or completing a puzzle. This will allow the students the write the days
of the week in chronological order and make the chronological connection.
   - The puzzle is as follows:
Name : _____________________
Date : _____________________
Time : _____________________
Weekdays Worksheet 1

Step 5: Wrap it Up

   - Go over the entire day with the students.
   - You can use another fun video to refresh their memory.

Strategies - ESE/ESOL:

During the class, while students are working in groups, we will approach those in need,
either because English is not their native language or because they still do not have the skills to
work with the computers in order to help and give them an individualized attention.

Many students may be struggling with not only the language, but also with feelings of
frustration at having to learn content, and technology. We will speak slowly and give instructions
in a clear and concise manner, by using gestures and expressions that help them understand.

I will also provide a guided example of what’s expected of them in order for the students to
have an understanding of what I expect them to do. Providing visuals will make it easier for the
students to fully comprehend. Small/cooperative groups, like carpet time, will also allow the
students to learn from their peers. This gives them a different aspect of the subject matter.

Strategies – Instructional:

The following instructional tools will be used throughout this lesson plan:

   - Oral Presentation
   - Lecture/Presentation
   - Formal Assessment
   - Pre-Assessment
   - Centers
