The Open Bioinformatics Foundation (OBF) is a non-profit organization that promotes open source software development and open science in bioinformatics. It serves as an umbrella organization for bioinformatics projects like BioPerl and EMBOSS. The OBF sponsors conferences and events, provides mentoring, accepts donations for member projects, and manages assets on behalf of projects. Its goals are to support the bioinformatics community and ensure bioinformatics resources remain open.
