What is a Works Cited Page?
Let’s Define it First
 A Works Cited page is exactly what it sounds like!
 Works = the sources you are using in your research paper
 Cited = another word for quoted or paraphrased – basically “named” or “mentioned”
 So, a Works Cited page is a document where you “name” or “mention”
your sources!
A Works Cited page allows you to…
Where does a Works Cited page go?
 At the very END of your research paper
 As a NEW page – it gets its very own fresh page!
What should a Works Cited page look like?
 The title of the page is centered & NOT
underlined or italicized or bold or in quotes!
 Works should be alphabetized by AUTHOR LAST
NAME
 If you have no author name, use the first word of
the article title (after “A,” “An,” or “The,” if
applicable)
 The entire page should be DOUBLE SPACED
 Entries should be formatted using a hanging
indent
 Every line AFTER the first of an entry should be
indented (press TAB button once)
Other Works Cited page reminders…
 Your Works Cited page should have a 1:1
relationship with your in-text citations
 In other words, if a source is listed on
your Works Cited page it MUST be used
in your paper; and, if a source is cited in
your paper it MUST be listed on your
Works Cited page
 What ever is “hanging out” to the left on your
Works Cited page MUST be what is listed in
your in-text citations (this is typically the
author’s last name)
 So, the first entry would be cited in the text of
your research paper like this:
(Allen 4). – or whichever page number you
used, if applicable
 The second entry would be cited in the text of
your paper like this: (Bregy 189).
