HISTORY
• MADHUPURI or MADHUPUR In TRETA YUGA
during the reign of Daityaraj MADHU.
• MADURA , MADHURA , MATHULA , MATURRA
then finally came to known as MATHURA
 These names evolutes from varies incidents
described in our VEDAS & PURANS.


MAHABHARTA KAAL & MATHURA
 Shursena, the state including the present Mathura
becomes the important with the birth of
LORD KRISHNA


MAHAJANPADA KAAL & MATHURA
• It was among the 16 mahajanpadas (big states) in
that period.
• During KUSHANA PERIOD , the MATHURA city
was developed as the cultural capital by one of the
greatest emperor of Indian history “KANISHKA”.
• PUSHYAMITRA SUNGA , the greatest king of Sunga
dynasty described Mathura as the city better than
that of cities of AYODHYA & VARANASI.


MEDIEVAL PERIOD & MATHURA
 On the banks river YAMUNA ,MATHURA was also
important from strategic point of view as well.
 City saw a steep decline in its glory as INDIA was
attacked several times by foreign invaders.
 But MUGHALS developed it as a centre of
MILITARY IMPORTANCE.


MATHURA & BHAKTI MOVEMENT
 MATHURA was developed as a important centre
of SUFI & BHAKTI SAINTS during bhakti movement
 This culture can trace back to thousand years ago-
 MATHURA developed its own style of music known as
“HAVELI SANGEET” which can trace back hundreds of
years ago.
 Yet any sangeet gharana was not developed MATHURA
occupies a important place in INDIAN MUSIC.


HISTORICAL OVERVIEW
 Hence, we can conclude from above that the
Mathura was a city of glorious past having its
great importance in INDIAN CULTURE &
HISTORY.
 Medieval Era, saw a steep downfall in glory of the
city but yet it led to transformed it into a city of
STRATEGIC IMPORTANCE.

Geographical area of District Mathura is 3329.4
Sq.Km.
•POPULATION : 5 Lakhs (approx)
•GEOGRAPHY : Locates on the banks of river
YAMUNA.150 km away from NEW DELHI.

•City’s infrastructure is presently in a very
bad shape.
•Basic urban amenities are still at under
developed stage.
•ROADS, ELECTRICITY & WATER SUPPLY are
still matters of great concern in the city.
•Infrastructural development in villages of
Mathura are some other serious problems
regarding the development of MATHURA.

 Today’s road conditions which prevails in
MATHURA are below the require standard.
 Lack of PUBLIC AWARENESS & DULL ATTITUDE
OF LOCAL LEADERS AND ADMINISTRATION
are the basic reasons behind the problem.
 Today arrival of seasonal rainfall means a FLOOD
PRONE SITUATION IN MATHURA.
 Broken patches and ditches on entire roads of city
have made things uneasy and difficult for the
commuters.


TRANSPORT & POLLUTION
 Public transportation system in the city is just for
name. Local auto-rickshaws ,tempos etc.are main
source of pollution in the city.
 Road congestion in main market places like Holi
gate, Bharatpur gate ,Chowk bazaar etc. are other
examples where the basic infrastructure should be
strengthened.


YAMUNA & GHATS POLLUTION


•On the banks of YAMUNA , CITY occupies 25
ghats each of them has its own historical
importance .VISHRAM GHAT lies in the middle of
these 25 ghats.
•Due to years of neglecting activities by authorities
and common people many of these ghats are
present in very bad situation.
•The following pictures will cement these
statement :

•The city has an excellent educational infrastructure
but yet there is lot of work to do at grass -root
level i.e. at VILLAGE LEVEL.
•Still there are thousands of children who only
dreams of school.

 The city has ample opportunities , historical
monuments and sites yet tourists are only able to
see some extract of those heritage sites.
 Flow of tourism diverts only in some parts of
Mathura.
 Historic kunds, sarovars, ghats ,palaces, temples
etc. are should also be develop into sites of
TOURIST ATTRACTION.


RURAL TOURISM
 It is newly developed trend which can increase
large number of tourists to the BRAJ REGION.
 In this field MATHURA has a vast potential to do
some work. Almost every village in BRAJ have
historical importance . SO IN MY DREAMS EVERY
VILLAGE OF MATHURA IS A CENTRE OF
TOURIST ATTRACTION.


LOCAL CULTURE & TOURISM
 Mathura from ancient period was a centre of
ART, ARCHITECTURE , DANCE. But now all of
these things have vanished from the traditional
city of Mathura.
 These old traditional things should also be added
in order to make TOURISM much more
interesting.
 Different centre's of ART, schools of DRAMA &
DANCE should be established in order to make
tourists much more entertained. These centre's
should be run by traditional local artists.
 Art of SANJHIKALA , dance of RAAS, NUKKAR
NOTANKIS,etc. Are some common examples.

 Least interest in the plantation surroundings their
localities.
 No participation in garbage management by the
public.
 Encroachment of drainage channels causes heavy
health hazards.

 Proper use of facilities in order to make their
availability ensured for the coming time.
 Cooperation with local authorities and
administration for maintenance of city’s
infrastructure.
