• #5: <number> CAPM4 began shipping in 1998. The CAPM5 has been shipped from early 2001. The main reason for the change between CAPM 4 and 5 was the obsolescence of certain components (such as the A/D converters) used on CAPM2 and CAPM4. As a new design was required, it was decided to include functional enhancements requested by customers. These enhancements include: More flash memory to enable larger history and event storage. Additional serial port. Zero crossing detector on 1 phase to support under/over frequency protection. Support for Fast Trip Input Module. Software versions since V25 have supported CAPM4 and CAPM5. Each new software release has been produced in CAPM4 and CAPM5 versions (versions must be different because of the low-level changes and because of the additional memory in the CAPM5).
• #7: <number> The Software Version identifies the exact software loaded into the program memory on the Controller The Configuration Number identifies the configuration loaded into the database which then controls what the software will do. For example, whether the operater text displays are to be in English or another language.
• #8: The CAPM software version and configuration numbers can be read from the ‘Switchgear Wear/General Details’ screen in the SystemStatus menu.
• #9: When WSOS is on-line to the switchgear, the CAPM software version and configuration numbers can be read on the Configuration window.
• #10: As new features are added to the CAPM software, changes must be made to WSOS in order to support these features. It is important therefore that if you are using the latest CAPM software, you also have a WSOS software release which is compatible.
• #11: Anyone can download the latest WSOS software from the Nu-Lec web site although it will only run in demonstration mode unless they have a valid WSOS licence. In order to download CAPM software, a Service Login is required.
• #12: When users enter the Nu-Lec Service web site, they are prompted to enter a Username and Password. Users who have a need to access this site must have their details entered by Nu-Lec who will then issue a Username and Password.
• #13: Once the Service web site has been accessed, a variety of information can be downloaded. To download CAPM software, click on the Controler Software option in the list on the left hand side of the screen.
• #14: From the Controller Software Search screen, users can filter their search by selecting on of the options in the drop down lists for Controller/CAPM and Product. The search may be further refined by entering text in the Description field.
• #15: Select one of the options from the Controller/CAPM and Product drop down lists and click on search to find details of software meeting the search criteria.
• #16: When the search has finished, a list of software that meets the search criteria will be displayed. Each record contains information such as: CAPM4 or 5 Software version Supported switchgear type Language text Communications protocol supported. Compatible WSOS software version
• #17: The information entered in the Description field for the search must match the text or a part of the text in the title of the software being sought.
• #19: The cable used for software loading is the same cable used for WSOS. When the CAPM software is downloaded from the Nu-Lec web site it is in a zip file which also contains: cap5load.exe CAPM4/5 Software Installation Service Procedure document Documentation on the communication protocol supported
• #20: The cap5load.exe and software files must be loaded into the same folder on the PC to be used for software loading.
• #22: The first step in the software loading procedure is to save the existing switchgear configuration from the controller that is about to have its CAPM software upgraded. The switchgear configuration is then safely stored on the users PC and cannot be effected by any abnormalities that might occur during the CAPM software upload.
• #23: cap5load.exe cannot be launched from Explorer. You must firstly launch the Command Prompt and then point the cursor to the folder containing cap5load.exe and the CAPM software file to be loaded. When the correct folder has been selected (nulec sw in the above example) the command ‘cap5load’ can be entered. This will display the correct usage for this command: cap5load [- serial port] [-high:-low] [-force] [issue filename] Where: [- Serial port] is the number of the comms port on your PC being used to connect to the controller. [-high:-low] is the baud rate for the data transfer. This is best left out as it will default to high. [-force] This is also optional but is recommended as it forces all settings to default values. [issue filename] is the name of the CAPM software file being loaded into the controller.
• #24: When the correct command line has been entered, details of the software to be loaded will be displayed. A message appears to ensure the Trip and Close switches are isolated before the software load continues.
• #25: During the software load the Command Prompt screen will display the progress as an increasing percentage until 100% complete. The screen display will then change to advise that the software database is being downloaded. When the software load is complete, the Command Prompt screen will appear as above. The CAPM will restart after a delay of up to 3 seconds.
• #26: A successful software download can be confirmed on the Switchgear Wear/General Details screen on the Operator Control Panel. This screen is in the System Status menu.
• #27: Once it has been confirmed that the CAPM software has been downloaded successfully, the switchgear configuration that was saved earlier can be reloaded into the controller.
• #28: Once the switchgear configuration has been reloaded into the controller, a comparison can be done to check that the on-line and off-line files are the same. To do a comparison, WSOS firstly reads the configuration from the controller and then compares it with the off-line file already on the PC. If any differences are found, they will be displayed by WSOS as above.
